jddonahoe J Anyone know a consistent source of 93 octane gas in the San Francisco South Bay? I live inthe Gilroy/Morgan Mill area, and everything seems to top out at 91. Thanks #1 · Feb 4, 2018 Anyone know a consistent source of 93 octane gas in the San Francisco South Bay? I live inthe Gilroy/Morgan Mill area, and everything seems to top out at 91. Thanks Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Feb 4, 2018 I believe there is a 93 at the 76 gas station off of Saratoga...right by the Mitsuwa Japanese market #3 · Apr 11, 2018 There is a 76 station on Woodside Road and Kentfield Ave. in Redwood City. They have 100 octane at the pump, which you can mix with the 91. It’s probably too far north for you, but it’s there if you need it. #4 · Apr 12, 2018 If you’re not using Cobb tune 93 octane or other similar tunes requiring 93 octane gas, there is no point to fill up your Macan with it. Macan is only designed for 91 octane gas anyway. #5 · Apr 12, 2018 (Edited) There are several threads on this. What you are saying is only partly true. Here is a cut and paste from the Good to Know app: S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo PP recommended fuel octane: 98 RON/ 88 MON (93 CLC or AKI) S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo PP alternative fuel: 95 RON/ 85 MON (90 CLC or AKI) Macan Base: 95 RON/ 85 MON (90 CLC or AKI) The engine is suited to operation with fuel containing up to 15% ethanol. The use of fuels containing ethanol may lead to an increase in fuel consumption. Information If the recommended fuel is not available, in an emergency, the vehicle can also be fueled using unleaded fuel without metallic additives, with octane levels of 91 RON/82.5 MON (86 CLC or AKI). However, this may reduce performance and increase fuel consumption. ▸ Refueling with unleaded fuel without metallic additives, with octane levels of at least 91 RON/82.5 MON (86 CLC or AKI). ▸ Do not floor the accelerator pedal with unleaded fuel with octane levels of 91 RON/82.5 MON (86 CLC or AKI So, as you can see, the GTS, Turbo, Turbo PP are intended to ideally use 93 AKI (US octane rating system), which means they can benefit from higher octane. 91 AKI is an alternative, but the car’s computer will sense it and change the timing to accommodate the lower octane fuel. I don’t know how much if a performance increase one would notice by using 93 vs. 91, but to say the Macan was built to use 91 isn’t exactly true. It CAN use 91, but it was built to use 93. Here is the conversion from RON to AKI (RON Octane Rating x 0.95 = AKI Octane Rating) 98 RON Octane x 0.95 = 93.1 AKI Octane (US measure) 95 RON Octane x 0.95 = 90.25 AKI Octane (US measure) 0 Reply #6 · Apr 12, 2018 Interesting. Guess the S uses same gas as the Base. #7 · Apr 12, 2018 Nope. That’s my fault. Somehow I missed the S when I cut the original info. I’ve edited my post to fix the error. Sorry about that. 0 Reply #8 · Apr 12, 2018 Thanks! Now the hunt for 93 octane gas begins. #9 · Apr 12, 2018 Looks like base will not benefit from 93 #10 · May 15, 2018
fuhrius said: the 76 station in downtown Saratoga has 100. I mix it with 91in some of my other cars with great results...haven't done it with the Macan yet. Click to expand...
Curious, what ratio of mixing between 100 and 91 do you use? Thx. #13 · May 15, 2018 depends on what I'm doing and what car I'm using but I generally try to get it to ~93 octane. I've run it richer than that with my GT350R...that car seriously wakes up with the add'l octane. 0 Reply #11 · May 15, 2018 We just got back from the Bay/LA area and couldn't believe the price of 91 octane. It was always over $4 and paid as must as $4.49 a gallon once. I was glad to get back home where I could get my Shell 93 octane for $3.09 a gallon. :D #12 · May 15, 2018 My (tuned) Saab is very sensitive to octane, especially in the summer heat, pinging/detonation would result in the ECU significantly pulling timing. I've resorted to mixing in about 3-4 gallons of 100 octane from a nearby station to ~15 gallons of 91, really makes a difference! No such problems with my base Macan on 91. #14 · May 17, 2018 Thanks Fuhrius. I can't find a place close to me in San Jose area that sells 93 octane, so I will need to mix 100 and 91. I am planning to buy the Cobb Accessport and want to try the 93 octane ECU map. Insert Quotes Post Reply
