Introduction
Sharon Osbourne is an English media personality, television host, author, music manager, and businesswoman with an estimated net worth of $220 Million.
Managing Career
Sharon Levy met Ozzy Osbourne when her father was managing Black Sabbath, and when he left the band, she began dating and managing him. Following several successful albums, world tours, and their marriage, Sharon Osbourne approached Lollapalooza to request that Ozzy perform. However, when they told her he was too “uncool,” Sharon launched her own festival called Ozzfest in 1996, held almost annually until 2018. After managing her husband’s success, she began branching out with other acting, founding Sharon Osbourne Management.
Besides managing Ozzy, Sharon Osborne has also worked with many other artists through her management company. These include her kids, Kelly and Jack Osbourne, Motörhead, The Smashing Pumpkins, Coal Chamber, ELO, and Queen.
She has also co-managed the band Cube with guitarist Mike Dunphy of the English indie rock band Cud. Although Cube didn’t have much success after being signed to Polydor Records, plenty of Osbourne’s other acts did. Sharon has even turned down managerial requests from big names like Guns N’ Roses, Courtney Love, and Fred Durst.
Television Career
Sharon Osborne became a major celebrity in her own right after starring in the MTV reality show The Osbournes, which followed her family’s daily life. The show began filming in 2002 and ran until 2005, bringing MTV its highest-ever ratings in America and Great Britain. Sharon reportedly earned £11.5 million for her time on the show and launched The Sharon Osbourne Show in 2003. During that show, Sharon conducted interviews on a giant bed, though ratings were poor, and it was canceled in 2004.
In 2006, she relaunched The Sharon Osbourne Show on ITV, which enjoyed better ratings overall until Deal or No Deal took over its time slot. She then joined Simon Cowell as a judge on The X Factor in the UK and remained on the show from 2004 to 2007. After leaving that show, she appeared with Piers Morgan and David Hasselhoff on America’s Got Talent,
Sharon also appeared on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice in 2010, taking home third place and losing to Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete.
Recent Work
Sharon Osborne joined Leah Remini on the CBS talk show The Talk when it was launched in 2010, and she remained on the show until 2021. In 2014 and 2017, she appeared as a guest panelist on the daytime talk show Loose Women on ITV. She returned to The X Factor for the show’s 13th season in 2016 and remained for the next two seasons before leaving once again.
Osborne then guest-starred on the Fox series Lucifer in season 5, episode 12, appearing as herself. Sharon appeared on Sharon Osbourne: To Hell & Back and Leigh Francis’ Shopping with Keith Lemon in 2022. That year, she also began hosting The Talk, a weekly primetime show on TalkTV, a British opinion-oriented TV and Radio channel.
Ozzfest
In 1996, Sharon and Ozzy created the iconic Ozzfest festival dedicated to serving heavy metal fans worldwide. Sharon’s vision and business acumen transformed Ozzfest from an ambitious idea into one of history’s iconic music festivals, grossing over $147.5 million from 3.8 million ticket sales across 247 shows. Ozzy also became the first heavy metal artist to surpass $50 million in total merchandise sales, largely thanks to the performance of Ozzfest.
While Ozzy was the festival’s main attraction and face, Sharon and Jack managed the Ozzfest behind the scenes, securing performances by some of the biggest top-tier metal acts of all time, such as Korn, Pantera, Tool, and Iron Maiden. The festival was known for hosting the best metal bands in the world and permitted unknown, unsigned bands to perform, allowing them to gain some notoriety in the music industry.
Ozzfest ran annually from 1996 to 2008 and then moved to a more ad hoc basis, with shows in 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2016, with the last major show in 2018, which Ozzy headlined.
Since then, Sharon has revealed that the festival was forced to cancel operations due to greedy management, agents always asking for more money, and the festival’s inability to be as cost-effective as it once was.
However, early this year, Sharon announced on The Osbournes Podcast that she was thinking about reviving Ozzfest as a touring festival if bands were realistic about their performance fees and what they’re expected to do. She emphasized the importance of keeping festival costs manageable, particularly regarding artist fees, to make the event financially viable.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, Sharon’s unwavering dedication to metal and her knack for adapting to an ever-changing industry make it entirely possible that Ozzfest could make its return shortly, bigger and better than ever.
