She Came, She Sang, She Levitated! Dua Lipa Brings Energy ...

DETROIT - Levitating was definitely in the cards for global superstar Dua Lipa as she brought her “Future Nostalgia Tour” to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Friday, February 25. This is the multiple Grammy Award winner’s first arena tour which was two years in the making due to COVID.

Lipa released her Grammy-winning “Future Nostalgia” album in early 2020, but had to wait two years to perform the songs live on tour.

Lipa took the stage at 9:20 p.m. with some retro nostalgia, of sorts. A throwback-style video introduced her roughly 10 dancers one-by-one before the star appeared on stage to a loud roar from the crowd as she lead off with one of her hit singles, “Physical.”

Not to be confused with the Olivia Newton-John 80s hit, Lipa did seem to pay homage to that era as she performed in a neon green outfit with a retro dance video theme.

Lipa’s setup consisted of a full band with keyboardist, drums, guitars and bass along with four backup singers and a huge video screen. The stage extended out about a third of the way into the crowd where the entire floor section was packed with enthusiastic general admission fans on their feet the whole night.

“Welcome to the ‘Future Nostalgia Tour.’ I’m so happy to be here tonight,” Lipa said to the crowd in a rare moment of pausing between songs. “We’ve been waiting to put this show on for two years, so I’m really, really honored to be sharing this room with you all.”

The fast-pace concert continued with one song after another with little to no breather for Lipa as she went right into “New Rules” from her debut album, followed by another hit single from “Future Nostalgia” with “Love Again.”

She continued with song after song from that album with “Cool,” “Pretty Please” and “Break My Heart,” before going back to her first album with “Be the One.” Lipa commanded the stage like a seasoned pro accompanied by her dancers with plenty of choregraphed moves, often matched by Lipa, showing that she’s a dual threat.

She finally took a quick breather to change her wardrobe backstage before coming back with even more energy than before, if that was even possible. Songs included fan favorite, “Good in Bed” along with “Boys Will Be Boys” and the popular dance hit with Calvin Harris, “One Kiss.”

The show flew by as she went into her biggest hits with “Cold Heart,” featuring Elton John on the big screen behind the stage, “Levitating,” with Lipa hovering above the crowd on a small platform and the finale of “Future Nostalgia” and another huge hit single, “Don’t Start Now.”

The 18 song concert went 90 minutes on the dot, ending at 10 to 11:00 p.m. The concert was one of the most well-paced shows we’ve seen many years as we don’t even remember looking at our watch to see what time it was and before we knew it, the encore was upon us.

If this tour and her huge sophomore album are any indications of what’s to come from this young superstar, the future looks bright from Lipa with plenty more nostalgia where that came from.
