Okuyasu scar musing stuff. Warning for bullying and general sad shit

I was trying to come up with probable causes for Okuyasu’s face scar (which comes and goes frequently in Araki’s more recent depictions of him) (heck it might have never been a scar in the first place, maybe the boy just has permanent creases) and I ended up bumming myself out with some depressing ideas that weren’t along the “his dad did it” route.

I thought about his scar and thought about “X” shaped objects, the first thing coming to my mind being a wire fence. It would have to be large though so, uh, a shitty hand built metal fence I guess. And Okuyasu would have to be… um, ten or twelve or something, maybe. Can you tell, I’ve thought a lot about this after the writing bit happened, good job.

Okuyasu walks parallel to an old metal wire fence, having decided to take a different route home that day. He hears the laughter of children on the other side, far off in the distance where he spots a park.

It’s hot, abnormally high summer heat temperatures warms through to the soles of his flip flops against the concrete. It makes it so he can’t get too close to the fence, unable to thread his small fingers through the large holes and hold on. Still, he peers through, watching a few children, much younger and smaller than himself, playing with their parents on a wooden playground. There’s nothing extraordinary about it, nothing out of the realm of normal, but that’s why he sticks around.

The scene gives him a strange feeling, an annoying feeling, a euphoric one. He becomes sick to his stomach the more he lingers on it.

He’s interrupted from his thoughts by a different set of voices. Behind him stand several boys from his school, none of them are worth a second glance in Okuyasu’s opinion, but they’re calling him, jeering him, pointing their fingers and asking if he’s hoping to be picked up by one of those families like a stray mutt. If he asks nicely, maybe they’ll build a doggy door in the back for him.

Okuyasu sees red and flings himself from the fence. He tackles one of the kids, the nearest one, the kid with several more inches and kilos on him, of course. He hardly gets a couple punches in before the other boys pull him off, throwing him so hard against the fence that he bounces back and falls on his knees.

They’re yelling more things at him now, words that reach his ears but not his brain. All the same, it pisses him off, makes him want to fight back because they can’t be saying anything he hasn’t heard from them a hundred times before. But he’s just one kid against many, and they hold him at bay easily.

The one he tackled first stands up, wipes the snot from his nose, and stomps towards him. “Here, if you wanna have a look so bad, let me help you.” Swiftly, the boy grabs the back of Okuyasu’s head and shoves it hard into the rusted fence. Okuyasu flails with all his might, but the boy grabs one of his arms and twists it behind his back. He presses harder til Okuyasu feels the rough, heated metal cut into his skin. He curses and cries, kicking his legs backwards but to no avail.

They cause such a commotion that some of the children and parents in the far off park hear it. They shout at the boys, unsure of what is happening. And when one of them moves to approach, the group finally leave, spitting at the pavement under Okuyasu’s slumped form. Okuyasu hisses when he touches his face, feeling a bit of wetness there where he’s been cut.

One of the adults reaches the fence, but Okuyasu is already running.

tbh it’s unlikely a rusty old fence could cause scars like that unless it was made of rust and rocks and… knives. But hey, what can you do.
