Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed during a conference for the intrepid plumber's 30th anniversary that the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film was right all along. In one scene from the film, Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) check in with a police officer. The duo explain they're the "Mario Brothers," Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
The scene is just one of many in the often mocked live-action film. Miyamoto laid the debate of the brother's name sake to rest, confirming on Sunday that Mario's name is Mario Mario.
Nintendo is celebrating the franchise's 30th birthday with the release of Super Mario Maker on September 11 and a 'Thank You' video of fan creations.
The English Nintendo YouTube page also uploaded an interview with Miyamoto circa the 1980s and now. In the video, Miyamoto and the franchise's long-time designer Takashi Tezuka talk about how video games are created and all the possibilities in Super Mario Marker.
What's your favorite memories of the Super Mario franchise? Let us know in the forums.
