Midwife told me don't worry about it, she said probably it is just an ultrasound inaccuracy but she refer me to see a doctor on Monday. Now I have convinced myself if there is really no problem why would I need to see doctor about it. I had no problem with previous scans, 1:17xxx for down syndrome but I still managed to freak myself out.( Dr. Google is bad) Anyone have or had similar experience?? Please help me out here :(Original poster's comments (5)go to original poster's comments pageno reactions0comment Advertisement | page continues below

  • member avatarbookworm95 Posted 10-03-17I had to have growth scans during my pregnancy. I was told my daughter was measuring behind by a few weeks, and considering I had pre eclampsia and they were worried about my baby's growth, that made me stress out. The next 2 scans showed my daughter was absolutely perfect and there was nothing to worry about. Scans late during pregnancy aren't accurate at all. Things like your baby's position and how skilled your sonographer/midwife/doctor is with the ultrasound machine can really affect the measurements. You've probably been referred to see a doctor just to be on the safe side, but if everything was okay during all the other scans and tests and everything else was measuring fine, then I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about :-) Just a side note: get off google! Relax and enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy xxSee all replies (1)
  • member avatarjschmoll Posted 10-03-17I was pregnant with my first at 46 so had lots of scans due to high risk factor. All scans were showing short femur length off the charts (below 5th percentile).  My son is now 13 months old and even when he was born it didn't look like he had short legs. He is perfectly normal.  The only thing was in his first year of life, short/pants were a size below his tops but now that has caught up and he is now in a size 1 for pants and tops. Please don't worry. I became so stressed about it while I was pregnant although my obstetrician kept telling me not to. Like you mentioned, ultrasounds can be inaccurate + we don't all fit within a bell curve.See all replies (1)

  • jJlr2017 Posted 11-03-17I also had to go for extra scans in my third trimester as my sons femur length was measuring 6 weeks behind. I was so worried as the first thing I saw on Google was that short femurs are a marker for Downs Syndrome.  He was born perfect and is now 18 months and looks totally normal.  All the best :)See all replies (2)

  • member avatarjessicaamy1 Posted 11-03-17This was exactly us. Had extra scans too and my son is basically just a short arse lol he is still 0% for height but perfectly healthy.  Femur length is one marker but it is accompanied with other makers if something is wrong ... Stop googling it honestly just makes you worry extra for no reason! Step away from google!  My OB was really reassuring about that and he was right i just have got a very little boy on my hands :)See all replies (1)
