Member Oct 27, 2017 1,408 Edit: I played it, see Threadmark. Hey guys, I got both Danganronpa 1 and 2 at last eShop's sale. I love both Zero Escape and Ace Attorney series and always had heard about Danganronpa, and I'm happy I decided to play them. I like the games, despite the mini-games i wish I could skip (like the rythm part of the trials) but ok, guess that's part of their charm. Anyways, I believe I just finished the 2nd one Hajime became a SSJ and Junko is gone and I'm wondering if I should watch or play v3. Watching would spare me of playing the minigames but I'm not sure if the story is like the game. Also, I kept reading on some threads that v3 has a disapointing plot but the last case is really good? I will take my time, wait for another sale and get v3 or watch the anime. Which one you recommend me? Thank you! Last edited: Jul 26, 2023 Noctis

Member May 1, 2019 4,700 do not watch the anime. i couldn't even make it past one episode after realizing halfway through the novelty factor of playing out these murder mystery scenarios was gone and all you are left with was shallow characters and dogshit anime tropes. the world building really isn't a strength of the series and the show asks you to take that shit seriously, which is wild to me. stersauce

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
  • Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak
  • Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
That said, DR3 is entirely skippable, and I recommend skipping it. The confusing naming scheme makes sense eventually. Fiel

Anime on both hope and despair (hope i remember name correctly) are also fun in its own rights IMO. if you are fan, i don't reccommend skipping it. Kewlmyc

Avenger Oct 25, 2017 31,706 Danganronpa V3 is NOT the same as Danganronpa 3. Danganronpa V3: Soft reboot of the series. Pretty good imo, but pretty divisive due to some plot elements/twists. Danganronpa 3 (anime): Finale of the plotlines that Danganronpa 1, 2, and Another Episode set up. Yes the finales of these games is an anime. It's stupid. Also not really good. Patitoloco

Member Oct 21, 2021 27,354 The Danganronpa anime is a continuation more so for the previous two games, so you get some resolution for those characters (if you want them). The third game is an entirely different beast and is completely separate and unrelated. So you can partake in both! But seriously, play the game :P CannonFodder52

Member Nov 11, 2019 9,734 Absolutely play DRV3. Like others have said, DR3 will give you closure on the cast you've come to know so far, so that is an incentive to watch, I... guess. DRV3 is certainly divisive, but you'll find plenty of people who'll defend it. I love it the most of all titles, but I can see why others would take issue to it, the argument for or against the game is very subjective. It's very hard to explain without spoiling. Either way, it's a can't-miss title. If you've spent time on the series and are invested in it, this game is for you. kodax_shc

It tends to be very divisive. Some people love the ending, some absolutely hate it. I'm personally in the camp of people that loved it but I totally understand why others wouldn't Viale

V3 is incredibly divisive in part because of its first chapter and definitely its last chapter. I find it to be one of the strongest finales I've experienced in gaming with a lot of obvious meta narrative going on concerning DR as a property as well as the general theme surrounding the importance and relevance to fiction as a medium. It worked really well on me. That being said, I can't fault someone at all if it fell flat for them. I got the ending and my first thought was "damn, some people are going to *hate* this" Last edited: Jul 26, 2023 Nocturnowl

People hating it only proved the ending right, that's why its the best finale. I stand by saying V3 is the best in the series, it was bold and fearless and ended the series on its own terms. Jawmuncher
