Octavia is a Latin girl’s name, and basically translate as “eighth”.

According Skoda, the company chose the name for the 1959 Octavia as it was company’s eighth model after World War II, as well as being eighth model in the company’s “evolutionary line” to feature independent suspension.

It’s not the only model in company’s range to feature a female name with the Fabia still around, and the Felicia available between 1994 and 2001.
