Slime Rancher - How To Unlock The Glass Desert And Activate Oases

Players have the opportunity to explore a very large and diverse world throughout the course of Slime Rancher. It feels as though every time the player turns the corner they won't know quite what else is going to pop up, and as soon as they think they have seen all the things Slime Rancher has to offer another new slime or location is thrown into the mix. Tracking down these new things and discovering how to access them is almost just as much fun as having them though.

Without a doubt, the most difficult and most interesting areas of the game for the player to track down though is The Glass Desert. This area exists separately from the rest of the map and the game doesn't exactly give any indication on how to get there. Once the player does arrive though they are then tasked with activating new objects called Oases that will require some work on the player's part. This guide shows players how to make it to the Glass Desert and how to activate the Oases.

Getting to the Glass Desert is very tricky because the player will need to acquire several keys, solve a couple of different puzzles, and navigate one of the more confusing locations in the entire game. The very first thing that players will need to do in order to make their way to the Glass Desert is first to be able to unlock the Ancient Ruins area of the map, which in and of itself is no easy feat since it is the last area on the main part of the map.

In order to make it to the Ancient Ruins, the player will need to make their way all the way through the Indigo Quarry area until they come across a locked door. The player will need to use Slime Key (acquired by feeding a Gordo Slime until they burst) to open this door which then leads to an area called the Transition. By going left from here the player will be able to enter the Moss Blanket area, but straight ahead is a massive stone gate that will lead to the Ancient Ruins. The problem is that the gate is locked and there is no spot for a key to unlock it.

Instead, the player will need to track down six different statues throughout the area that have an empty slot on them. Each of these slots will need to be filled with a separate kind of plort in order to activate them and open the gate. Players will need Tabby, Phosphor, Rock, Honey, Boom, and Rad plorts in order to activate all of these statues. Luckily, the player has most likely seen and acquired almost all of these slimes before, so getting their hands on them shouldn't be too much of an issue. The Honey Slime though is a new variant that can only be found inside the Moss Blanket. Players will need to find a plort there and bring it back to open the gate.

Once the gate has been opened the player is able to enter the Ancient Ruins and begin exploring. This area can be a little confusing to explore, but players will just need to follow the different shiny doorways that lead through in order to make it all the way to the end of the zone. At the very end, they will come across a small temple looking structure next to a portal back the ranch. Inside of this temple, the player will once again find another Slime Gate that needs to be opened using a Slime Key. There is a Boom Gordo Slime not too far away from the gate that the player can use to acquire the key and get inside.

Rather than being in a brand new area, the player will instead find themselves in front of a large platform surrounded by five statues similar to the ones that locked the large gate at the entrance to the ruins. All five of these statues will need to be filled with Quantum Slime plorts in order to activate them. Luckily, these slimes are found all over the Ancient Ruins, so acquire these plorts and return in order to activate these statues. Once all five statues have been activated the platform will transform into a massive teleporter that will transport the player to the Glass Desert.

Slime Rancher Glass Desert Teleporter

The Glass Desert is one of the stranger areas of Slime Rancher because there is very little access to things like water, food items, or slimes here when the player first arrives. They will find a few chickens here and there or a couple of slimes to collect, but nowhere near as many as the player encounters in previous areas. One new thing that players will come across though is strange flower bud-like objects that are spread throughout this area.

These objects are called Oasis Buds and by activating them the player can create an Oasis. Oases are little hubs inside of the desert that contain food and water, which in turn spawn a series of different slimes for the player to acquire. Once these Oases are activated the player is able to obtain some of the highest quality resources in the game and get their hands on some of the best slimes that are available in Slime Rancher. The issue is getting the Oases activated is a pretty difficult task.

The first thing that the player will need to do is track down Ancient Water Fountains spread throughout the desert. There are four different fountains, which are tucked away in different corners of the area and each one is inactive when the player comes across them. In order to get water from these fountains, the player has to look around until they find three statues in the immediate area. These statues will once again need the player to shoot a specific plort into them in order to reactivate them. Each set of statues only needs one type of plort and they are Rock, Dervish, Tangle, and Mosaic. The last three can only be found within the Glass Desert, but Rock plorts are very common.

Once players have managed to activate an Ancient Water Fountain they will be able to suck up the water using their vacuum. The game will then give the player a thirty-second countdown until the water in their tank dries up. In that thirty seconds, the player will need to rush to all of the nearby Oasis locations and spray them with Ancient Water in order to activate them. There are typically three or four different ones in close proximity to a fountain, so players will want to look around quite a bit if they want to get all of the Oases in the game. Once this has been done an Oasis will be permanently activated and the player can continue to return if they want access to its resources.
