Smartlipo, like other energy-assisted liposuction methods, is traditional liposuction with the addition of heat, in this case generated by laser energy. Despite claims that it has fewer side effects and causes less pain, we believe this is mostly marketing talk. Smartlipo, like traditional liposuction, uses a small suction tube to remove fat and can be done under different types of anesthesia. The difference is Smartlipo also uses a laser to help shape your body. In our experience, we do not find that Smartlipo has a better recovery or fewer side effects than traditional liposuction.
