Snowfall Season 5 Premiere Date Is Revealed - Digital Spy

Snowfall has confirmed when its eagerly anticipated fifth season is set to premiere.

On Tuesday (December 21) the FX crime drama – which was created by Eric Amadio, Dave Andron and the late John Singleton – confirmed that it'll return to FX in the US with a double bill on Wednesday, February 23.

"Be strong or be gone," the official account tweeted alongside confirmation of the premiere date.

A first photo from the new chapter was also unveiled, featuring Damson Idris's Franklin Saint, and if all of that's not enough, Snowfall also tipped fans off to when they can expect to see a teaser trailer for the new season land.

According to TVLine, fans will be given an extra Christmas gift this year as a new teaser is set to drop on Christmas Day (December 25) on ESPN and ABC during the two networks' broadcast of NBA games.

Set against the US cocaine epidemic of the 1980s, Snowfall follows young drug dealer Franklin as he crosses paths with the likes of undercover CIA operative Theodore 'Teddy' McDonald (Carter Hudson) and rivals who threaten to disrupt his business.

The show's season four finale saw Franklin finally hang up the cane he'd been so reliant on since Melody shot him in the previous season – something that Idris says they'd "been building up to" for a while.

"That Keyser Soze moment was really special," he shared, admitting that the scene reminded him of the final moments of The Usual Suspects. "The biggest thing for viewers was, 'When are we going to get back to Franklin being well?'

"He doesn't need anyone to see him as being vulnerable anymore. He doesn't need to be 10 steps ahead anymore. Now he can just focus on the business. He realises in that moment that he's come full circle. That's why it was special putting down that cane."

Season 5 will open in the summer of 1986, with Franklin and his entire family "wealthy beyond their wildest dreams". They appear to have it all – that is, until, everything falls apart.

When the sudden and tragic death of a basketball star makes the rock cocaine epidemic front-page news, law enforcement goes on the warpath as lawmakers vow to make changes.

Soon, the streets of South Central LA become ground zero in the war against drugs, and the Saint family is forced to navigate police, rival gangs, the CIA and even one another...

Snowfall season 5 premieres on February 23, 2022 on FX in the US. The show airs on BBC Two in the UK.
