At exactly 9:57 a.m. Tuesday, hip-hop legend 50 Cent tweeted “I Love NY, but i live in Houston now i’ll explain later,” along with a photo of himself wearing an Astros cap in front of the Astrodome.
So 50 Cent lives in Houston now? Hey, we’re not complaining.
And neither did the rest of the Bayou City, based on the online response. “I got a slab ready and waiting for u, wya I’ll drop it off for u,” fellow rapper and Houston rapper Paul Wall replied to 50 Cent's Instagram post about the move.
The (former) East Coast rapper, who’s real name is Curtis Jackson, was born in Queens, New York, and rose to prominence in the early aughts, founding hip-hop group G-Unit with Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks in 2002. He’s been nominated for 14 Grammys, winning in 2010 for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group” with Dr. Dre and Eminem (for “Crack A Bottle”).
But besides the Bayou City having another Grammy-winning artist living within city limits, 50 Cent also teased something else for Houstonians to look forward to: a new TV show.

In the same post as his moving announcement, the artist also shared a screenshot of a Deadline article, announcing his new straight-to-series Discovery+ show, Confessions of a Crime Queen. The anthology series, which is produced under 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television production company banner, and Rich Bye and his Goodbye Pictures, and Lionsgate Television, according to Deadline, will follow the rise and fall of one female crime lord per season.
We don’t know much more than that, only that casting is underway and the show will air sometime next year. Of course, this isn’t 50 Cent’s first foray in the TV/film industry. Besides G-Unit Film & Television, his production company, Cheetah Vision, produces low budget action movies. Additionally, he co-created, executive produced, and starred in the Starz network show Power, which ended a six-season run in February 2020.
Who knows what exactly his future will bring here in H-Town. But in the meantime, welcome to Houston, 50 Cent.
