The Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex is owned and operated by the Gloucester County Improvement Authority. Located in South Harrison Township, the Solid Waste Complex is a sanitary landfill situated on a 540 acre tract of land. Currently the active landfill and supporting structures utilize 20 percent of the available area, the balance of the site remains undeveloped with parts used as a grassland bird habitat, for stormwater management and a visual buffer.

HOMEOWNERS REGULATIONS FOR DISPOSAL OF WASTE

Can a homeowner transport solid waste:
N.J.A.C. 7-26-3.3(a) exempts homeowner vehicles from NJDEP waste transporter registration requirements provided (all three conditions must be met):
- The homeowner is transporting waste generated from their primary residence; and
- The homeowner vehicle displays a ‘passenger’ motor vehicle registration, or a *Non-commercial Truck or SUV NJMVC registration code 15*. (Note: Non-commercial trucks or SUVs are prohibited from displaying exterior markings on the vehicle); and
- The homeowner or non-commercial truck or SUV has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of less than 9,000 lbs. If the homeowner vehicle, or non-commercial truck or SUV vehicle is hauling a trailer, then the combined weight cannot exceed 16,000 lbs. (check motor vehicle registration for GVW)
- All convenience center customers must hand unload as no dump trailers are permitted.
The following vehicle registration types, and/or types of vehicles seeking to offload waste shall not be permitted to access a transfer/disposal facility, regardless of homeowner status, without an NJDEP registration:
- Commercial motor vehicle
- “Farm”
- U-Haul, Home Depot, or other rental type vehicle
- Vehicles that have markings on them, such as a business name or advertisements.
