If you’re looking for a spot-on Sonic Ocean Water drink that tastes like the real thing, you’re in the right place. This one is fizzy, sweet, just the right amount of coconut-y, and bright blue like it should be. This super fun copycat drink comes together in minutes… and yes, your kids (or you) will be obsessed. Let’s make a Sonic classic at home.

Ingredient Notes + Variations
This Sonic Ocean Water recipe keeps things simple and fun, just like the original. You only need a few easy-to-find ingredients to whip it up in minutes.
- Sprite or Sprite Zero – Any lemon-lime soda works, but Sprite gives the cleanest flavor and fizzy finish.
- Simple syrup – You can find this in the liquor aisle at the grocery store or make my homemade version.
- Coconut extract – A little goes a long way. Don’t swap it with coconut milk… it won’t work. You can use imitation coconut flavor though and it’ll be just fine.
- Blue food coloring – Just a few drops create the vibrant blue color reminiscent of the ocean. Food coloring can usually be found down the baking aisle near the extracts and spices.
- Maraschino cherries (optional) – Add a pop of color and sweetness to garnish your drink.
How to Make Sonic Ocean Water
You won’t need a blender, mixer, or any fancy gear for this recipe. It’s a pour-and-stir situation. For full recipe details, including ingredients needed and measurements, see the printable recipe card down below.
Step 1: Mix it Up

stir together Sprite, syrup + coconut extract

add a drop of blue food coloring + stir
Step 2: Pour Over Ice

fill four glasses with ice + pour the blue drink over each one
Step 3: Add Cherries + Serve

top each glass with a maraschino cherry + serve immediately
Tips for Success
- For parties, scale it up and serve in a big drink dispenser. It disappears fast.
- Use cold Sprite straight from the fridge so the ice doesn’t melt too fast.
- Don’t overdo the coconut extract. It’s strong, and more than ½ teaspoon will overpower the drink.
- Want to make it ahead? Mix everything but the soda and ice, then add those right before serving.

What to Serve with Sonic Ocean Water Drink
- Pigs in a Blanket – Buttery, golden, and snackable.
- Cheeseburger Sliders – These little guys are perfect for a Sonic-style meal at home.
- Crispy Chicken Wrap – Light and crunchy, just right with a cold drink.
- Air Fryer French Fries – Can’t go wrong with fries and a fizzy drink.
- Gyro Recipe – Juicy, bold, and great with something cold. Hey, that rhymes! 🙂
This Sonic Ocean Water recipe is ridiculously easy and always a hit. Skip the drive-thru and make it at home anytime.

Notes
Storage Directions
Store leftover drink in the fridge for 2-3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Be aware that the carbonation in the soda will diminish with storage. You can also use the leftovers to make a slushy or popsicles.Making Ahead
Like most drinks, it’s best when consumed quickly after mixing up, but can be made up to a day ahead of time and kept in the fridge.Nutrition
