Sega's iconic video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, is back with its second installment as a superhero comedy film, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, after its first part was a hit in theaters in 2020.

These movies are based on the video game series created in 1991 by Sega, starring Sonic, an extraterrestrial hedgehog noted for his supersonic speed, who as part of his cinematic adventures seeks to befriend a couple living in Montana.

The first installment of Sonic the Hedgehog became the highest-grossing video game movie of all time, so the mission to repeat the past success will not be easy for this sequel.

The second part of Sonic the Hedgehog has Jeff Fowler as director and Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington as writers, who were already in the first installment, plus other familiar faces return.

Ben Schwartz returns as the voice of Sonic along with Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik (now known as Dr. Eggman), while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter return in their roles as Tom and Maddie Wachowski.

Lee Majdoub also returns as Agent Stone and new faces in this film include Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, as well as appearances by Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell and Shemar Moore.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released by Paramount Pictures, in association with Sega Sammy Group, in the United States on April 8, 2022, while 45 days later, it will premiere on Paramount+.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 initial reviews and plot

In this second movie of the video game franchise, we will see Sonic already settled with his friends Tom and Maddie Wachowski in Green Hills, looking to get used to a more leisurely life according to what this hedgehog is used to and now sneaks out at night in search of adventure.

Tom and Maddie take a break from their new role as Sonic's surrogate parents and go to Hawaii for the wedding of her sister Rachel, which allows Dr. Robotnik, partnered with Knuckles (a red-feathered porcupine-like echidna looking for the Master Emerald on Earth), to track Sonic down.

However, Sonic will be supported by Tails, a tiny yellow fox with two tails that will help the protagonist locate the emerald and prevent Robotnik from exploding the jewel, although as part of this adventure they will reach Hawaii and ruin Rachel's wedding.

In short, more adventures than those seen in the first installment of Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as more characters looking to entertain the families who come to see this movie.
