Sonic the Hedgehog is the video game company SEGA's mascot and the and the main protagonist of his homonymous video game Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He is a Speedster hedgehog with plenty of attitude and personality who lives up to his name by being able run at supersonic speeds.

Background[]

Not much is known about Sonic's early life. What is known is that he was born on Christmas Island on June 23rd with the ability to run at super speeds, but his love of adventure quickly led him to leave his home. Under unknown circumstances, he met Dr. Ivo Robotnik, aka Eggman, and the two became enemies. He would then continue to battle the evil scientist in countless battles Sonic along with his friends defeats and protects the world from foes that come their way

  • Drop Dash: Sonic performs an instant Spin Dash the moment he touches any type of land.
  • Sonic Boost: Sonic envelops himself in some sort of aura and propel himself at higher speeds than normal, while acting as a sort of battering ram to enemies in front of him.
  • Blue Tornado: Sonic uses the Spin Dash to circle around an opponent in midair at high speed while leaving a blue aura trail. The resulting slipstream creates a tornado effect that forms a blue cyclonic vortex of air around the opponent.
  • Insta-Shield: An air shield Sonic can create by rapidly spinning, vibrating molecules in the air to block attacks for a second or so.
  • Bound Attack: A downward spinning attack that makes Sonic bounce into the air. Can be used repeatedly to reach higher places.
  • Sonic Wind: Sonic summons a whirlwind to an opponent’s position to ensnare and damage them.
  • Sonic Storm: Sonic jumps in the air or stays on the ground and performs a spin dash that releases a shock wave that damages enemies.
  • Sonic Heal: Sonic can heal himself by vibrating his molecules at high speeds, healing any physical damage he may have received.
  • Somersault Kick: A midair somersault maneuver followed with a kick, which creates a projectile energy wave that can damage or stun opponents.
  • Magic Hands: An ability that can destroy, shrink and entrap enemies in small spheres that Sonic can throw as a projectile. Must be initiated by a short range
  • Time Stop: An ability that stops time for 10 seconds.
  • Chaos Control: The ability to bend time and space, as long as Sonic has at least one Chaos Emerald. Sonic can stop time, slow time, and teleport himself and other objects.
  • Time Break: An ability that slows down the flow of time, giving Sonic extra time to react to his environment.
  • Hyper Mode: A mode that enhances Sonic's speed, strength and allows for more powerful special attacks.
  • Chaos Powers: While he does not commonly demonstrate usage of them, Sonic can in fact draw upon the powers of the Chaos Emeralds to perform supernatural feats. His most notable Chaos Power is Chaos Control, which allows him to manipulate time and space to perform feats such as stopping time or teleporting.
  • Cyloop: Leaving a light trail in his wake, enclosing it will result in various possible effects taking place. This ranges from launching several enemies into the air at once to freely creating Rings and giving himself an unending amount of Boost for several minutes.
    • Quick Cyloop: This variant allows Sonic to use the move much more quickly, making it even more difficult to react and avoid it.
  • Homing Shot: When performing the Homing Shot, Sonic rolls into a ball and spins in midair, generating ten copies of his ball form that contain shockwaves. All of them home in on the enemy, then circle in for attacking.
  • Back Step: Sonic does a swift backflip, which allows him to quickly backtrack or reposition himself better within a fight.
  • Boost: Sonic coats himself in a blue aura and rockets forward at top speed, granting instant acceleration and turning him into a highly destructive projectile able to mow down anything in his path.
    • Air Boost: An airborne variation of the Boost, used to increase the Sonic's speed in midair and soar through the sky. Sonic's use for this technique can range from quick evasion away from an enemy, to surfing through the air for long distances, cancelling attacks before they strike a target, and more.
    • Power Boost: Should Sonic enable his Boost while at maximum Ring capacity, Sonic will emit blue lightning around him while his speed is increased even further. Should Sonic lose Rings, his Boost will be reverted to normal once more.
    • Boost Mode: A higher level of speed that is entered after running for a while at top speed. In this mode, the user leaves afterimages.
  • Cartwheel: Sonic cartwheels to the left or right, appearing as nothing but a blur, and has proven useful for evading attacks.
  • Charge Jump: Sonic crouches slightly down and gathers up his strength, which is signified by a small red aura surrounding him. When releasing his charge, Sonic will then execute a jump that is much higher than his regular jump, allowing him to reach higher places. This can be done when he is running, though it will cause him to slide along the ground and slow down before doing the jump.
  • Dizzy Spin: In an attempt to confuse and dizzy his opponent, Sonic drops down into the position of a Spin Attack before quickly circling the opponent and speeding up before stopping.
  • Soul Surge When using Soul Surge, the user performs a special attack that allows the user to either attack enemies, launching a kick to bump objects
  • Drift: Sonic creates friction to one of his sides while either sliding or spinning at high speed, causing his direction to shift rapidly in a smooth curve without him losing much of his momentum.
  • Top Kick: When performing the Top Kick, Sonic sits down in a kneeling position and leaps up to perform a stationary high-kicking punt forward.
  • Drop Kick: Sonic runs at his opponent before jumping into a horizontal stance and doing a standard dropkick with both feet pointing towards his opponent.
  • Hop Jump: Sonic assumes a more aerodynamic pose as he flies through midair. He then does a upward spring in midair to gain extra height.
  • Insta-Shield: For an instant, Sonic creates a temporary shield around himself that can slash enemies within his range. This allows Sonic to attain simultaneous offense and defense, and allows him to bypass forcefields.
  • Jump Dash: Sonic launches himself straight forward in midair with a burst of speed, leaving a blue trail in his wake. This is useful for gaining air mobility, crossing gaps, and maneuvering across obstacles.
  • Emerald Dive: Sonic dashes in the air towards his opponent like a torpedo, dealing two hits to them and knocking them down.
  • Parry: While guarding, Sonic automatically parries attacks that strike him and deflects them without harm. A successful parry will slow things to a crawl without affecting Sonic himself, allowing more leeway for him to react.
  • Phantom Rush: With a maxed out combo meter, Sonic enters this state. His attacks are 1.2x stronger and he attacks so quickly that it appears as if four of him are attacking at once. This lasts indefinitely, so long as Sonic can keep his combo meter running.
  • Quick Step: Sonic running at high speeds, Sonic performs a swift-strafing movement to the left or right. When doing so, Sonic appears as nothing but a blur, indicating his short burst speed is swifter than his steady pace.
  • Martial Arts: In merely 2 training sessions, he became the successor of the secret art of the Linshao Kung Fu under the tutelage of Master Shuifon the Iron Fist As Kenpo practitioner he avoids wasting unnecessary energy in combat. Highly impressed Master Zik with his skill during combat, with the old zeti even calling Sonic a master in his own right.
  • Knight Style: Quickly grew in pratice & combat, mastered 3 dueling styles along the way and became a legendary knight
  • Radial Burst: With a pulse of energy, Sonic uses Radial Burst and is capable of negating the effects of the Color Powers.
  • Skydiving: Sonic is capable of controlling his descend during a midair dive by making his body more or less aerodynamic. As a result, he can control whether they will fall faster or slower through midair.
  • Slide: Sonic falls back while running and slides along the ground with his feet in front of him, capable of sweeping comparable characters off their feet. This can be combined with his Drift and Boost techniques to further amplify both his mobility and striking power
  • Sonic Ballet: Sonic performs an aerial forward somersault. This serves to increase the his torque, with the force created from it being used to give a burst forward in mid-air.
  • Sonic Boom: Sonic launches himself forward with a burst of speed so great that it breaks the sound barrier before continuing to move at a steady pace. While active, the Sonic Boom grants Sonic increased speed and invulnerability, allowing him to damage enemies and opponents with mere physical contact.
  • Sonic Flare: Sonic falls straight down and carries his entire body on one hand. Using break dance moves (via the flare technique in acrobatics),he then does a sweeping kick across the opponent in a circular motion, before shifting over to his other hand and lifting his legs up on one hand (and then hopping back into neutral stance).
  • Sonic Guard: Sonic crosses his arms at speeds dwarfing sound to brace himself from oncoming attacks. This forms a purple, pulsing spherical orb around Sonic's body that acts as a shield that blocks any incoming attacks.

    • Flame Shield: A shield that completely protects Sonic from all forms of heat and flames. As an addition to that, it also allows Sonic to perform an aerial dash attack to rocket towards enemies.
    • Thunder Shield: A shield that gives Sonic protection against electrical based attacks. Along with this ability, he can attract metal objects (usually rings) towards him, and he gains an extra jump with this equipped.
    • Bubble Shield: A shield that allows Sonic to breathe underwater indefinitely. Along with that, it gives him the ability to bounce off of the ground like a ball.
    • Gold Shield: A shield that usually protects the player from any possible harm from a Badnik or threatening obstacle until the player loses it by taking damage once. Also enables the Blast Attack.
    • Heat Barrier: A blazing red shield that absorbs damage and damages surrounding enemies
  • Wisps:
    • White Boost: Adds to Sonic’s overall boost power, allowing him to boost for longer times. Powers Eggman’s robots sometimes
    • Cyan Laser: Turns Sonic into a light-speed laser that bounces across surfaces
    • Ivory Lightning: Charge through enemies and obstacles leaving a trail of chain lightning behind him
    • Gray Quake: Seems like an odd fusion of Pink Spikes and Blue Cube, with the ability to scale walls and ground pounds.
    • Green Hover: Makes Sonic a little green UFO that flies around. Not much offensive capability and not very fast.
    • Pink Spikes: Gives Sonic even more spikes than usual, making him a pink glowing ball of spikes that can roll around on walls, ceilings, and the ground. Not as fast as the spin-dash but gravity doesn’t affect him if he’s touching a surface until the power runs out.
    • Purple Frenzy: Turns Sonic into a giant thrashing beast that eats everything in his way and grows larger as a result. He transforms back to normal once the wisp power runs out, no worse for wear.
    • Orange Rocket: Fly high and far real quick, though he can only travel in one direction the whole way.
    • Red Burst: Turns Sonic into a living fireball, allowing him to jump through the air with various explosions.
    • Violet Void: Similar to the Purple Frenzy, he turns into a sort of black hole and absorbs everything in his path, growing larger.
    • Indigo Asteroid: Similar to the Purple Frenzy and Violet Void, Sonic gains his own gravity and various junk and enemies become his own ring, damaging others and clearing a path for him. The More junk he absorbs, the larger his gravity.
    • Yellow Drill: Turns Sonic into a living drill that can drill through dirt like a shark or move through water like a bird. Though if it does run out of power underground, Sonic dies.
    • Blue Cube: Turns blue rings into blue cube platforms and vice versa, and also does a ground pound move that hurts all enemies on screen.
    • Crimson Eagle: Lets Sonic fly around for a limited time and mid air dash.
    • Magenta Rhythm: Incredibly odd wisp where Sonic bounces around to the rhythm, following a set path.
    • Black Bomb: Turns into a giant rolling ball that explodes whenever you want or when it runs out of power.
    • Jade Ghost: Turns Sonic intangable to pass through objects.
    • Final Color Blaster: Greatly enhances Sonic's attacks and/or shoots him forward into a rainbow beam.

Alternate Forms[]

Super Sonic[]

Tying in with his Chaos Powers, Sonic is able to harness the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds at once to transform into Super Sonic. In this state, his abilities are enhanced exponentially and he gains a few new ones. However, the form is dependent on how many rings Sonic has on him at the time, and will run out when the rings do. On average, this allows Sonic to sustain the form for at least 50 seconds and at most several days depending on how much energy he uses.

  • Super Sonic Boost: An enhanced version of Sonic’s boost ability. It moves faster and surrounds the user in an aura of chaos energy.
  • Bolt of Lightning: A bashing attack where Super Sonic will move so fast he gains a blue aura and becomes a lightning bolt of sorts.
  • Arrow of Light: Super Sonic bashes into his enemies at extreme speeds.
  • Deflect: An ability that allows Super Sonic to project an energy shield from his hands to shield and redirect projectile attacks and objects.
  • Super Sonic Energy Blast: A series of amped homing attacks followed by an energy blast released from his hands at an opponent.
  • Positive Energy Aura: Thanks to Sonic absorbing all of the positive energy of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic has a natural positive aura that allows Super Sonic to pacify evil or angered creatures.
  • Energy Construct Creation: Super Sonic can create giant energy gloves and shoes, that function as punches and kicks Even giant energy tornadoes and Energy Swords and chains
  • Conceptual Manipulation: with the power of the Chaos Emeralds Super Sonic can manipulate the can created/destroy concepts or shapes

Darkspine Sonic[]

Sonic the Hedgehog can achieve by absorbing the World Rings of rage, sadness and hatred. In this form, he is slightly more violent and aggressive due to the influence of the World Rings' sealed feelings. At the climax of the World Ring incident,the hedgehog unwillingly assumed this form and defeated Alf Layla wa-Layla,thus saving the world of the Arabian Nights.

  • Fire Manipulation: can create concentrated flames on his hands and feet to amplify the destructive effect behind his attacks and form highly powerful bursts of flames when hitting his opponent capable of burning the pages of the Arabian Nights and Remained unaffected
  • Emotional Empowerment: Empowered by the World Rings of Rage, Hatred and Sadness, with each being a manifestation of a specific emotion.
  • Plot Manipulation: can create/destroy pages of the arabain Nights and write the stories
  • Energy Generation: Darkspine Sonic is able to generate his own Soul Energy in a move similar to the Spin Dash.

Werehog Sonic[]

this extreme physical transformation was created when Sonic accidentally absorbed a dose of Dark Gaia's energy, although the transformation itself would only be triggered by nighttime and remain active until daytime. After using it on a number of occasions, Sonic lost this form permanently when Dark Gaia reclaimed the energy that caused the transformation.

Super Sonic 2[]

By combining his cyber corruption with his Super form, Sonic taps into a greater amount of power than before while retaining all of the powers of his standard Super form, being able to inflict significant damage to the corrupted Supreme when his normal Super form could not. Additionally, Super Sonic 2 gains the ability to Perfect Parry any attack, including attacks that even regular Super Sonic is unable to deflect. Sonic lost the form permanently after using the full extent of his cyber corruption as Super Sonic Cyber in order to destroy the End.

  • Energy Construct: can make energy plat forms that can lift giant things and crush them.

Hyper Sonic[]

If Sonic happens to have all seven Super Emeralds (larger, more powerful versions of the Chaos Emeralds) on him, he can turn into his ultimate form of Hyper Sonic. In this form, Sonic retains the abilities and Super form, but the raw power is amplified even further than Super Sonic. However, it too has a time limit dependent on how many rings Sonic has on him at the time of transformation.

  • Light Speed: Hyper Sonic is even faster than Super Sonic, allowing him to blitz enemies that may have contended with his previous forms.
  • Invulnerability: Much like Super Sonic, the Hyper state has shown to be completely immune to physical damage.
  • Oxygen Independence: As long as he is in the Hyper State, Sonic's able to survive in space, and underwater.
  • Flight
  • Enhanced Strength: Hyper Sonic's strength far surpasses even the likes of Super Sonic.
  • Enhanced Chaos Powers: Although Hyper Sonic hasn't shown off any chaos powers, it is possible that has them.
  • Hyper Flash: Hyper Sonic can generate a blast of chaotic energy from his body that utterly annihilates most foes in his general vicinity. It is often considered Sonic's ultimate attack, and is his most technique.

Shatter Sonic[]

In Sonic Prime, Sonic achieved this transformation after Nine transferred the Prism Energy of three (later four) Prism Shards to him. Sonic uses this transformation to stop the Prismatic Titan that was about to destroy the Ghost Hill Temple Mountain where he and Nine were.

  • Prismatic Energy: Shatter Sonic is imbued with the power of four Shards of the Paradox Prism.
  • Sentient Afterimages: Sonic in this state is fast enough to create afterimages, which can talk and seem to be sentient.

Faults[]

  • Aquaphobia: Noted to not be the strongest swimmer, Sonic is incapable of swimming properly and sinks like a stone in water. This may be due to aquaphobia (Sonic thinks that if he falls into water, he will be trapped with no one to get him out), though he does not demonstrate that fear very often. In some situations, he can bypass his weakness to water by running or sliding across its surface, leap out of the water with successive jumps, and survive extended periods of time underwater with air bubbles.
  • It has been stated that if Sonic does not sleep for eight hours during the night, it will spoil his running. In addition, he has trouble keeping his balance when coming to a sudden halt when running at high speed.
  • Sonic's durability is often negated in gameplay, in which Sonic has survived the Death Egg exploding on him and falling down to Mobius (Sonic the Hedgehog's version of Earth), but Sonic easily drops rings from touching enemies when not attacking them, touching spikes, and getting hit by attacks.
  • Sonic always thinks on the positive side and believes no matter what, he will always find the light. Because of this mindset that he and his friends can to anything, Sonic has a giant internal ego, he often banters and plays around with his enemies. This often makes him underestimate his opponents and leave his guard down, as seen during his encounter with Infinite in Mystic Jungle during the War to Take Back the Planet and when he got trapped by Eggman onboard the Chaos Energy Cannon at the start of Sonic Unleashed.
  • Sonic never second guesses and will always do what’s right. While this is selfless and a huge virtue it can cause Sonic to be impulsiveness and recklessness which often causes trouble, such as during the Lost Hex incident where he got rid of Eggman's Cacophonic Conch, which Eggman used to keep the Deadly Six in line, before listening to Tails' warnings about the conch.
  • Sonic believe everyone deserves freedom so will become very impatient when constrained when normally carefree and easygoing. Also because of this belief of freedom Sonic speaks to everyone in an informal and friendly manner even authority which often makes G.U.N. angry with him for not treating them highly.
  • Sonic doesn’t think of anyone as enemies and thinks of them as competition or a thing he has to overcome. Because of this Sonic forgives people quite easily such as Knuckles, Silver, Merlina and even Shadow. But in some media like IDW comics this quality of Sonic is put to the test as sometimes his compassion can cause the worse such as when Metal Sonic reverted Mr. Tinkers memory’s to Eggman.

  • Sonic's favorite food is Chili Dogs. This used to be exclusive to the comics, but it has since been canonized, as of Sonic and the Black Knight and Sonic Generations, where he is seen eating them.
  • Has a protein chemical named after him. Sonic hedgehog protein (SHH)
  • Sonic fought Mario twice in the popular web series DEATH BATTLE!
    • He first fought Mario in season 1 and won.
