Gamers will continue to experience difficulty purchasing the PlayStation 5, as Sony expects the ongoing console shortage to continue until 2024.

Component shortages continue to be an issue – but will hopefully ease this year.

Sony recently released a Business Segment Briefing for 2022, suggesting that PS5 supply concerns will likely persist for a few years, Gamerant reports.

On one page of the document, Sony shared a few mitigation efforts in the hopes of resolving the problem, including sourcing from several vendors and negotiating for the best PS5 logistics.

The document also said the demand for the PS5 system is at an all-time high. According to Sony, US retailers are selling 1,000 PS5 consoles per minute, meaning the demand for the PS5 is currently exceeding the supply.

There are various factors that contribute to this shortage of PS5 consoles but one of the biggest is the ongoing global chip shortages that is heavily impacting all electronic industries including the graphics cards market. Intel CEO Patrick P. Gelsinger recently said he believes the situation will not improve until 2024.

Spending money to (hopefully) make money.

This is upsetting news for many gamers worldwide who are looking to get their hands on a PS5. Currently, the only way to do so would be to buy it from resellers selling the console at ridiculous prices.
