"never fly with them again"

Trip Verified | Horrible company, they love canceling flights or delaying flights. They also charge you for upgraded seats if you want them but after paying extra, they still end up putting you on a uncomfortable economy seat anyways. I will never fly with them again.

"would not recommend it to anybody"

Trip Verified | We were on time to our flight leaving Tampa-Fort Lauderdale. For some reason the flight got delayed once we had boarded. We had a connecting flight to Guatemala. When our flight arrived we ran the entire airport, made it to the gate 10 min prior to departure. Door was closed and the gate attendant said that because it was just the 2 of us they couldn't hold the plane. She sent us to re-ticketing, we were then told there was no more flights till next day and sent us off to speak to a supervisor. The system wasn't showing any delay so he said he needed to make a phone call to find out the reason, no compensation was granted. After an hour wait, an attendant at the desk went to find the supervisor who had left for lunch and forgot to inform us he had placed us on the next flight at no extra charge, yet we had to pay for a hotel. We lost over $300 in hotel and excursion in Guatemala. Not even water is free in this airline, water is over $4. On our way back our flight leaving Guatemala was delayed an hour and another 26 min on the runway in Ft Lauderdale due to staff shortage. It took us about 45 min to go through customs and another 20 min to pass TSA. Ended up missing the flight, again. We were placed in a hotel (thankfully) and booked for the 6:35 am flight. At 6:05 am, we were informed that the flight got canceled and the next one is a 7:56 pm. We had to pay $208 to get a room to at least rest since we only had 3 hours of sleep last night. Will never fly Spirit again and I would not recommend it to anybody.

"I request my refund"

Not Verified | Spirit airlines canceled my flight and give me the option for Rebook and their option for rebook 3 days later so I request my refund, they refund me only $151. And I paid $497 for round-trip. I have to book with another airline to get back to my destination that cost me $578. I called to discuss the problem they put me on hold for 1.5 hours I give up and hang up.

"never fly Spirit Airlines again"

Trip Verified | Spirit cancelled my flight on Christmas Eve, one of the most disruptive days possible to strand a passenger. With no viable rebooking solution and no meaningful assistance offered, I was left on my own to figure out how to get back to my destination. The result: a last-minute replacement flight that cost nearly five times more than what I originally paid. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience but a complete failure of service at the worst possible time. What’s particularly frustrating is that I wanted to like Spirit. The planes looked modern, the brand felt fresh, and the pricing was appealing. Unfortunately, this experience made one thing painfully clear: the low price comes at the expense of reliability, accountability, and customer care. An airline’s most basic responsibility is to get passengers where they need to go. Cancelling a flight on Christmas Eve without adequate recovery options is completely unacceptable and demonstrates a total lack of concern for customers when things go wrong. Reliability is non-negotiable in this industry, and Spirit failed on the most fundamental level. This experience turned what should have been routine travel into a stressful, expensive ordeal. I will never fly Spirit Airlines again, and I strongly caution others to think twice before trusting this airline especially during peak/important travel periods when reliability matters most.

"not being forthcoming with this policy"

Not Verified | Do not book together and purchase the "cancel for any reason" insurance. If you do - and 1 person can not go you have to cancel the entire ticket for everyone. Neither can you change the name on the ticket and have someone else come. They are scamming people out of money by not being forthcoming with this policy in advance. The fact that they do not provide any adjustments/accomodations even with the cancellation purchased is outrageous. Additionally, the agents you speak to on the phone - unless it's in their script lack any capacity to critically think and attempt to assist a customer that already paid. Awful & shameful.

"Spirit Airlines needs to do better"

Trip Verified | I am deeply disappointed with the treatment I received from Spirit Airlines staff at the check-in counter. Two young women working the counter were laughing, mocking, and behaving unprofessionally while assisting me. When I looked them directly in the face, the behavior stopped—confirming that I was indeed being laughed at. No customer should ever be treated that way. For clarity: I checked in the night before my flight. I arrived at the airport at 5:15 AM, which is when boarding began. I was traveling due to a family emergency to see my father. I had already paid to check one bag for my round trip. Despite this, I was denied access to my flight. I was then told there were no remaining flights that day and that the next available flight was the following day. This information was false. After returning home, I checked Spirit’s website myself and found a flight leaving the same day at 3:47 PM, arriving at 5:28 PM. This confirms I was misinformed. What makes this situation even worse: Spirit charged my card for checking a bag that was never checked. I was charged for a round-trip bag fee, despite not being allowed to fly. I was then told I would not receive a refund for a service that was never provided. This experience reflects a serious lack of professionalism, accountability, and compassion—especially for a passenger traveling for a family emergency. Laughing at customers, providing false information, and charging for services not rendered is unacceptable. Spirit Airlines needs to do better.

"This is unacceptable"

Trip Verified | Spirit is an airline that has no policies to protect customer's interests and benefits. I applied for FREE SPIRIT. A fraudulent offer. They say having this credit card brings as benefit 2 bags checked per flight. They had a problem with their systems and my reservations were not linked with my FREE SPIRIT credit card. I sent evidence showing evidence of my credit card active, my id and any else they asked. The customer service department have put a note in my reservation after advised to ask a manual registration of my bags in the counter the day of my flight. Suprise! The day of my flight there was mo way to make effective my benefits even if I showed my credit card. I had to pay with my FREE SPIRIT credit card the registration of my bags. It is incredible that a customer has to be victim of lack policies and ways in SPIRIT to protect customers benefits when there is a problem with their systems. At the ends customers have to pay by their errors, problems and mistakes. This is unacceptable.

"ruined my 35th birthday trip"

Not Verified | Spirit Airlines completely ruined my 35th birthday trip to Cancun. What was supposed to be a memorable celebration turned into a stressful and disappointing experience due to the airline’s lack of professionalism, lack of humility, and lack of basic customer care. From the beginning, the ticket desk worker attempted to overcharge me for my flight, even though I had already purchased it online for $45 less. At the boarding area, staff repeatedly claimed the flight was “sold out” when the real issue was that Spirit had oversold the flight, they were pressuring passengers with backpacks to pay additional fees to check in bags unnecessarily. I refused to pay more, as I have never been charged for my backpack. The terminal supervisor provided no help at all—she was dismissive, unprofessional, and simply told me to call the 1-800 customer service number. When I called for a refund, Spirit only offered $134, even though I paid $234. Because of their mishandling, I not only lost money on the flight, but also on my hotel reservations and prepaid excursions. Spirit Airlines ruined what should have been one of the best birthdays of my life. Do not book with Spirit Airlines. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and moral responsibility shown during this experience is unacceptable.

“unacceptable treatment”

Trip Verified | I am reporting the troubles faced by my mother who was travelling from New Jersey to Dallas. I had booked a ticket for my mother . She is 85 years old . The flight got delayed by about 4 hours. Then the flight took off without taking my mother in the the plane because the wheel chair people didn't come. The gate agent booked her on another flight with another airline which was leaving after another 1. 5 hours later. This is unacceptable treatment by Spirit airlines for a senior citizen who needs care and help.

"would not recommend this airline"

Not Verified | This has to be the worst experience I've ever endured. Went on a 3 day trip which turned out to be a 5 day trip. This airline canceled flight 4 times in 2 days! Which cost me money! I had to book another room and ultimately rent a car and drive home. Filed a claim with the D.O.T and Spirit only reimbursed half of my out of pocket expenses after a month of me filing the claim. I would not recommend this airline.
