- With the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, Spirit Ashes have received a new upgrade called Revered Spirit Ashes, which allows them to become more powerful even if they are already at +10 level. Do note that this only applies while you are on the Realm of Shadow.
- Players may reuse the Spirit Ashes to dismiss a summon.
- Leaving the boundary of a valid summoning area will dismiss any active spirits.
- Spirits may only be summoned once per encounter, so you cannot re-summon them after they die during a boss fight.
- Spirits cannot be summoned while the effects of the Furlcalling Finger Remedy are active. Use the remedy again to cancel its effects.
- Summoning spirits require either FP or HP depending on the summon.
- Players must be near a Rebirth Monument, stone obelisks found at many Points of Interest and nearly every boss arena, to use Spirit Ashes.
- A monument icon, depicted below, will appear on the left side of the screen when conditions are met:
- Talk to Roderika at the Stormhill Shack. [Map Link]
- Travel to the Roundtable Hold, and talk to her and to Blacksmith Hewg several times until you exhaust their dialogue options.
- Reload the area by leaving or other means.
- Roderika will now be sat across from Blacksmith Hewg and is able to upgrade your Spirit Ashes
- 51 Standard Spirit Ashes - Grave Gloveworts
- 33 Renowned Spirit Ashes - Ghost Gloveworts
- Lhutel the Headless
- Black Knife Tiche
- Redmane Knight Ogha
- Mimic Tear Ashes
- Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff Ashes
- Cleanrot Knight Finlay Ashes
- This tier list has NOT been updated for patch 1.13 (as of 8/8/2024). Please keep that in mind when browsing this tier list. Some ashes may have greatly different placement than what is listed below. As always, use whatever you find fun to use, or suits your situation best.
- For Damage testing, the spirits are fully upgraded and tested against the Draconic Tree Sentinel. Most were left alone against the Tree Sentinel for Damage, but extra capabilities were kept in mind for some Spirit Summons that aren't necessarily all about damage.
- There are multiple Tiers and from best to worst going: S+, S, S-, A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-. S- is the only special category where the summons in this tier usually do something supportive or unique, where the main appeal isn't just the damage they deal. (ex. Finger Maiden Therolina Puppet.)
- If 2 Spirits have roughly the same amount of Damage, Summoning cost will be compared. Currently, (June 2024) there are 84 Spirit Ashes.
- Depending on the Playstyle of the Player and type of Enemy you summon your spirit against, tiers can easily change.
- The most important part to remember is that Spirit Ashes are situational, and the tiering isn't always 100% reflective of every situation. It is best to try out different ashes if one isn't performing well. This tiering is just a general gauge of power and usefulness.

Anonymous04 Dec 2025 03:58 It's a shame that this item encourages low skill play, because new players will choose to rely on Spirit Ashes to do fighting for them instead of actually buildcrafting, or learning enemy parry patterns. It's really a shame because it goes against Miyazaki's intended vision for the game. Really, these items are intended to make Elden Ring a true god gooner game. with them i can finally fulfill my and miyazaki's dream of watching in the corner while two lesbian lovers fight to the death while i cry, beat my meat, and get promptly beheaded. all over the screen mr. hidetaka. all over it. 一陽来復

Anonymous01 Dec 2025 00:30 Summoning is an under-appreciated art. To those who don’t understand and willfully cast stones, mind your own business. To those of us with curiosity and joy in our hearts, channel the ash. I wish there were more details about the unique interactions that several of the summons have. Like Latenna using enemy wolves as a mount, or the pumpkinhead frenzy mechanic. I guess I’ll have to find all of the cool secrets myself.

Anonymous27 Jun 2025 00:05 Really wish editors would stop suggesting Tiche for DLC bosses. She gets absolutely RAGDOLLED by some of the more aggressive, hard hitting ones like Gaius or Scadu Avatar, not to mention her standard attacks do pathetic damage (even in the base game) and destined death is nerfed while in the shadow realm. I tried her vs PCR one time and she got demolished long before phase 2 even triggered and had similar results with Gaius. Bosses like Messmer, Rellana, and Romina are highly mobile so she straight up misses most of her normal attacks and whiffs nearly all of her death blades in addition to their attacks knocking her down frequently. She's not the uber-tier summon she used to be.

Anonymous06 May 2025 15:30 To those who use them by default: you didn't cheat the game, but you cheated yourself. Nothing was risked, nothing was gained and the hollow victory you've achieved is a far cry from what could've been if you trusted yourself more. Don't just skim through the game as if you're consuming a product. There is no rush, you don't have to finish it in a week. Games like Elden Ring are rare, so take your time. Dive into it fully and experience all it has to offer. Explore different options, weapons and styles, and only then call for help. You'll see the difference.

Anonymous06 May 2025 11:09 Controversial paradoxical system. I've played all Souls games before, offline(no PS+), rarely used npc summons at first, none later. So Spirit Ashes were ambiguous for me. But since my controller is broken and sabotages me, I had to use summons, and oh it makes some fights to become Pacifist tun.Spirits Ashes should COST status parameters (a % of the player stats like HP, SP, AP, all attack and defense, less Souls/Runes as reward) and make the enemy more aggressive to the player. That way the difficulty would be more balanced.

Anonymous03 Apr 2025 09:17 Just found out about spirit ashes and I won't lie- I'm not all too enamoured with them. They feel like an unnecessary addition, as I felt the standard 'summon outside of a boss gate' is a simpler system that is much easier to balance... this works too, and does what it does well enough, but I felt it was a tad unnecessary when a similar system already existed. I suppose it does help to relieve an unreasonably hard boss? Don't mistake this as me hating the system, just feeling it was redundant or unnecessary. At most I would venture to say that I would have preferred dev time be spent on other things within the game, but that's something everyone can say for almost anything, so I recognize that it is a subjective argument with similarly subjective value. I don't hate spirit ashes, but I don't care for them either.

Most of his attacks have life drain, which means the boss loses 2% Hp minimum. Great for bosses like Mohg and Fire Giant. He can beat Mohg as long as you hug Mohg to keep agro and dodge his attacks while casting great heals between combos. Make sure to use Golden vow and Protection of the erdtree every 90 seconds to greatly decrease Mohgs fire damage. Blessings boon for bonus life regen.A tier summon without buffing, S tier when buffed up.

Anonymous14 Feb 2025 14:43 As someone who hasn't used Spirit Ashes since their initial playthrough, mfs really gotta stop acting like taking longer to beat a boss at the net reward of absolutely nothing makes them better at the game. It just doesn't make sense. There's no difficulty setting, style meter or special item you get. Spirit Ash users are factually better at the game than you and me because they're actually engaging with the most powerful mechanic. And if that somehow wounds your ego, you need to rethink how you got to a point where it's based on your performance in Miyazaki's Poison Swamp Simulator 5.

Trying to say someone shoudln't enjoy the game because they don't enjoy the game the way you do, is dumb!! Let people play a game and stop bothering them over their prefered way to play it. Anonymous21 Jan 2025 21:01 Summons are an optional easy mode. Which is not a bad thing, but a lot of people in the community will get salty over this statement, apparently because it downplays their sense of achievement and pride in beating this "super hard" game. Yes, it's definitely the toughest experience in all fromsoft series on par with Sekiro, but only if you play solo. On my 1st playthrough I was struggling real hard with Malenia, so I decided to use Mimic Tear and rivers of cheese, defeated her instantly, and it felt like I just cheated. There was little to no skill involved, just luck and L2 mashing, no "getting gud" feeling, I regretted it. To this day I wonder how can some people be happy and proud about beating the game like that? If we consider summons to be base game mechanic that everyone should use unless they want to make the game artificially more difficult, then it's really sad

Anonymous20 Jan 2025 12:30 So, my first FS game was Sekiro. In that game, you were pretty much a guy with a sword. You had some other stuff, but all those tools and skills really took a back seat. Relative to other games, its a pretty limiting moveset, but there was an advantage to this. Every boss could be balanced with that exact play style in mind, and the entire game could be curated exactly for that experience. It was a pretty tightly controlled environment, and if you didn't enjoy it, you were kinda out of luck. Elden Ring, on the other hand, is pretty much the wild west. Your player can essentially do anything, and I think that freedom is a big reason a lot of people resonate with this game. It genuinely is a good thing that so many new players could find a fun time with ER. But, with over 200 bosses and the ability for players to do almost anything, balancing is now much more of a daunting task. You can't really balance your game with the sword guy in mind anymore because there is so much more the player is capable of doing. I don't necessarily believe most bosses were balanced to account for summons, but I do believe many were balanced with summons in mind. They could function as a failsafe which any build could use. For example, if you find yourself in a room with a mandatory fight with 2 godskins, that might be a pretty heinous encounter. But it doesn't have to be, you could always summon to even out the odds. Does Malenia have a particular attack which is disproportionately difficult to dodge at point blank? Well, the player doesn't need to fight every boss at point blank. They can use summons, magic, ranged AOWs or many many other techniques. But rolling and fighting point blank solo has always kind of been the culture of dark souls and, ironically, I think many vets feel sort of left out with this game. I think many of them value the perseverance and time it takes to really learn a boss and "git gud". But now, more so than ever, you don't have to play the way they want you to play. You paid 60 (maybe even 100) dollars for this game, so nobody can force you to appreciate the art in the way that they would want you to. Though, this franchise has always kind of been their table. This is where they could sit and enjoy the art which, at one time, was probably made with them in mind. Now, the table is filling up, maybe with people who don't necessarily have the same values as them. And maybe that's a good thing. But, I think they feel worried that there eventually won't be room for them anymore.

Anonymous04 Jan 2025 03:39 I get the feeling like most ashes never get used, obviously the wandering nobles are a little far off the beaten path, useless against big enemies (I do mean BEEEG enemies), and have the slowest attack speed known to all living kind. I meant the rats, most puppets, different soldiers and those summons. Mainly because of their low damage output or health. While im not saying for you to use them, what i am saying is not to put down people for using summons. I bet whenever one of you makes a comment on summons being overpowered, you are thinking of tishe and her chunk damage, or the omen killer for his very high damage and stagger output, or mimic tear for, well, yeah. I myself am guilty of using mimic and tiche in my first playthrough. But after getting to Ng+9 with fingerprint greatshield, BB(Blade of blasphemy), Mimic, and bull goat armor, i am trying out new different builds and having fun with very weak summons. Just because there are very overpowered summons out there, don't just take them because you can, if you are doing a soldier build, then, if possible, use the soldier summon and/or caption summon of the same kind. Or if you are doing a magic build be it a warrior or caster, use a crystilian/mad pumpkin for caster builds, and use sorcerers/archers for melee builds. Just because there are powerful summons, plEASe don't talk down to us who use "weak" summons on purpose.

Anonymous30 Dec 2024 05:17 While not for everyone, I say thank you for these helpers! I am nearing 70, eyes are not great, never was an ace gamer. So I use summons sometimes to progress. This is a tougher kind of game than I am used to but I have been hooked for several hundred hours. Sometimes I need a crutch, and finding and trying these different summons is also just plain fun.

Anonymous24 Dec 2024 19:28 summons are perfectly fine to use in my opinion. just don’t claim you beat the boss first try if you used something broken like mimic tear or comet azur. beating the boss in 7 seconds is not an accomplishment.

Anonymous20 Dec 2024 11:57 What are the Warhawk and Ash Bird ranked below the Demi humans? They fly and have AoE and most bosses can't hit them but will be distracted trying while you get up behind them for some good heavy hit combos. Yes the Demi humans summon a nice distractions of 5 units but against strong bosses they tend to be easily wiped out very quickly leaving you with no support.

Anonymous12 Dec 2024 21:17 If they ever make Elden Ring 2 and decide to keep the spirit ashes mechanic, I hope that Mimic Tear won't make it there under any circumstances. 80% of the complaints about summons in this game are related to Mimic Tear in one way or another, and while it's technically not always OP, it doesn't change the fact that you can make it ten times more OP than any other spirit ash and it's undeniably superior choice to all of them. The idea of doppelganger summon is so simple and yet it ruins both balance and variety in this game so hard, it's the truth that's impossible to deny. No, I don't want you to not have fun while playing the game you paid 60$ for, there are dozens of interesting summons that you can have fun with, please. We all know people use Mimic Tear only to switch the difficulty to easy mode, there is literally no other reason why you would use it when playing casually...

Spirit Ashes | Elden Ring WikiSpirit Ashes in Elden Ring are companions, often mimicking the Lands Between's Enemies, summoned by the Spirit Calling Bell to aid you in Combat. This page covers how they function, the spirit ashes available, summon costs, and a community-driven list of their relative strength.
Shadow of the Erdtree New Spirit Ashes
With the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, 20 new powerful Spirit Ashes are added to the already stacked 64 Spirit Ashes in the base game. This leads to a total of 84 Spirit Ashes available between the base game and the new content added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Not only there are more Spirit Ashes being added to the game with Shadow of the Erdtree, but also in the Realm of Shadow, players can use a new item called Revered Spirit Ash, to make them more powerful. This new upgrade for Spirit Ashes allows them to exceed the power they have, even if they are already at +10 level.
This page is up to date with all this new content. Players will be able to search and find all Shadow of the Erdtree New Spirit Ashes here, as well as to learn about their Stats, Attack Patterns, Requirements, Upgrade requirements, Best uses, and much more regarding the new Spirit Ashes added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC! This comprehensive guide will help players optimize their combat strategies utilizing Spirit Ashes.
NOTE: As of Patch 1.13.2 Multiple spirit ashes stats and stagger values were changed, along with Revered Spirit Ash scalings.
How to use Spirit Ashes
To use Spirit Ashes, players must first obtain the Spirit Calling Bell from Renna at the Church of Elleh [Map Link].
Similar to Items, Spirit Ashes can be equipped to and used from your Quick Slots or Pouch. However, they can only be used while not in Multiplayer Coop and when near a Rebirth Monument.
Can you Summon Two Ashes in Elden Ring?
After summoning in a given area, you are not allowed to summon again in that area until you rest at any Sites of Grace or Fast Travel.
