Splashing/Guide - OSRS Wiki
Maybe your like
This article details how to splash. Splashing is the act of training magic by casting combat spells against an enemy while having too low magic accuracy to be able to actually hit. Although no damage is dealt, each Magic combat spell will still give the player a constant base amount of experience.
Despite the enemy remaining alive indefinitely, after 20 minutes the player will stop auto-retaliating. As a consequence, timely interaction with the game is needed to not be logged out due to inactivity.

Equipment[edit | edit source]
- It is necessary to wear items negating Magic Attack bonus to -64 or lower.
- A Magic Attack bonus of -63 (or higher) provides the chance of dealing damage of 1 Hitpoint or more.

For free-to-play players:
- A full plate armour set consists of any full helm, platebody, platelegs/plateskirt, and kiteshield. Platelegs and plateskirts confer the same bonuses.
- Plate armour of any metal can be substituted for another, e.g. a Bronze platebody and a Rune platebody both have a -30 Magic attack bonus.
- Green d'hide vambraces or Gilded d'hide vambraces require Level 40 Ranged to equip.
- Fancy or fighting boots can be substituted with Decorative boots.
- Any elemental staff to reduce runes needed and to enable autocast. Note that elemental staves have a +10 Magic attack bonus.
- The elemental staff can be swapped for a Cursed goblin staff (obtained from Diango in Draynor). This precludes the rune savings of an elemental staff, but achieves -68 Magic attack without the need to equip Green d'hide vambraces.
- Alternatively, a Cursed amulet of magic can be worn. This item allows an elemental staff to be used for splashing in Castle Wars, if the player wears full splashing gear (Platebody, legs, Stronghold Boots, d'hide vambraces and a kiteshield) to achieve -64 Magic attack bonus.
- The elemental staff can be swapped for a Cursed goblin staff (obtained from Diango in Draynor). This precludes the rune savings of an elemental staff, but achieves -68 Magic attack without the need to equip Green d'hide vambraces.
For members:
- The mixed hide cape offers -15 magic attack, requiring only 60 Ranged and 50 Defence to equip.
- Any blessed d'hide boots, snakeskin boots (pictured), or mixed hide boots can be used for a -10 Magic attack bonus. Snakeskin boots have the lowest requirements of the three, at only 30 Ranged and 30 Defence to equip.

air runes are also used for non-Wind spells (no requirements to wield). - ^ 5.0 5.1 5.2 Cost assumes that mist battlestaff (129,454), dust battlestaff (10,798), smoke battlestaff (3,692,270) or their mystic variants are used for Water, Earth, Fire spells respectively to completely cover the core elemental runes. (This requires at least
30 Magic which is quickly obtained).

Arceuus spellbook[edit | edit source]
The demonbane spells of the Arceuus spellbook can only be cast on demonic monsters. Magic attack bonus needs to be -64 or lower to always splash, and equipping a tome of fire or skull sceptre will make that more difficult to reach while saving runes. Weaker demonic monsters such as icefiends and pyrefiends are ideal given their low stats, however armour will need to maximise Magical melee while keeping Magic accuracy low enough to splash. Players can also reanimate an Ensouled imp head to splash at the Dark Altar to take less damage. Unlike regular imps, reanimated ones will not teleport away.

Locations[edit | edit source]
If the monster you are splashing on can attack you, make sure that your defensive bonuses are sufficiently high so it won't slowly kill you over time. Commonly used monsters are rats, seagulls, and spiders, though rats in member's worlds can be killed by cats.
Popular locations include the seagulls in Port Sarim and Port Piscarilius. The chickens near Captain Barnaby may also be a good choice, as they are close to a bank and usually not too crowded.
Players may also elect to check the bestiary to find a suitable creature & location themselves.

The only exception is the area in and surrounding Lumbridge, including the castle basement. Here, spells yield no experience for casting if a player's magic accuracy is too low to deal damage. This was done because the large amount of players splashing on rats looked odd to new players.[1]
