Spring Is The Time To Plant Raspberries In Utah! June-bearing or Everbearing . . .

I have finally decided what variety of raspberries to plant. I was torn between a June-bearing variety and an everbearing* variety. - June-bearing raspberries flower and produce fruit in early summer and then that's it. - Everbearing raspberries flower and produce fruit in early summer and then again in September until the frost. I decided that I want all of the raspberries to come on at once so I can have enough to make jam - lots of jam! So I have ordered 10 bare-root raspberry plants of a variety called "Latham". They should arrive at the end of the month. Maybe I will plant a few everbearing "Heritage" in another area of the yard just to do a comparison! Here is another article written by Larry Sagers about growing raspberries in Utah. *spellcheck seems to want to change everbearing to overbearing. Raspberries are never overbearing; they are among the most delicious of all fruits and there is no such thing as too many raspberries! We'll talk about zucchini when we talk about overbearing plants!

What Should I Be Doing This Weekend?

April 2021 - It's time to clean out last years' dead debris from the garden beds, plant cool season vegetables and flowers like onion, cabbage and kale starts, potatoes and pansies. Direct sow early seeds like lettuce, radish and cilantro. Enjoy the Spring!!
