The meaning behind the stormtrooper name of Star Wars' Finn has been revealed five years after John Boyega debuted in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.Boyega joined the galaxy far, far away as the plucky FN-2187, but soon ditched his stormtrooper life to join the Resistance. It was Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron who settled on calling FN-2187 Finn, but what was the real meaning behind his name?RELATED: The Rise of Skywalker's John Boyega Throws Shade at Reylo Ship ControversyThe official Star Wars Twitter confirmed FN-2187 is a reference to both Star Wars: A New Hope and a short film that inspired George Lucas' entire saga. The number 2187 is the detention block Princess Leia was imprisoned in on the Death Star in A New Hope. This in itself is a nod to 21-87, which was a National Film Board of Canada short that was Lucas' original influence for Star Wars.

Arthur Lipsett's 1963 short was an abstract montage-collage created from discarded footage he'd found in the editing room of the National Film Board. He'd worked there as an animator and combined the snippets with his own footage shot around Montreal, New York, and other cities to create nine minutes and 33 seconds of film.

The Force is said to have been inspired by a specific piece of audio used in 21-87 that discussed powers beyond God. This isn't the only nod to 21-87 that can be found in the saga, however. The devastating Order 66 being a mathematical answer for 87-21.
