Star Wars Theory: Jango Fett Survived Attack Of The Clones - CBR

In the original Star Wars, one of the biggest mysteries mentioned in a passing line was the Clone Wars. In 1977, audiences had no idea what a war involving clones would entail. But with Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, that question was no longer a concern as audiences were treated to the birth of the clone army, thanks to their host donor, Jango Fett. Jango was a skilled bounty hunter that used his skills as a Mandalorian to earn a deadly reputation. However, while Mace Windu seemingly killed him during the First Battle of Geonosis, a new theory believes that wasn't the case.

According to Reddit theorist, E-104Epsolon, Jango not only survived his battle with Windu, but he did so by using one of his Clones as a decoy. While it would seem outlandish that Jango would ever do such a thing only to never appear in canon again, some evidence could help explain this theory more easily. Furthermore, it could expand Boba's past as someone who tried hard to avenge his father's death.

Jango was a survivor and had fought countless battles before his time on Kamino. His skill even played a part in why he was a template for the Clone Army. As a result, he wouldn't have accepted death as easily as he did when facing Windu. In fact, Mandalorians were no strangers to fighting Jedi and had developed techniques to fight them that had proven successful over many battles. When Jango realized that his skills were still no match for enemies like Obi-Wan, he likely took matters into his one hands.

The theory explained that because Jango knew that the Separatists captured Anakin and Obi-Wan, he could assume that the Jedi and Clone Army wouldn't be far behind. Therefore, he employed the service of one of his Clones, likely already trained in combat, to take his place so that he could vanish. That would explain why when he faced Windu, he essentially stood in place, unaware of what he should do next against the Jedi Master.

However, while the theory has some solid inspiration, many holes still need to be considered. For starters, it's never clear exactly when Jango was aware of the hostages on Geonosis. Therefore, it's unlikely he had time to plan for a decoy. Furthermore, he had taken his son to Geonosis following a dogfight with Kenobi in an asteroid field. And on that ship, another clone never appeared in the cargo hold. Finally, if true, it wouldn't explain why Jango never found and took his son with him. He clearly showed love for Boba, and his absence would've been uncharacteristic.

In the end, the theory is still a clever idea that could get explored further should creators decide to tell another Boba Fett story where he reunited with his father years later to finish training. That said, there are still many holes in the story that have left more questions than answers. Regardless, the theory still managed to explain how much of an impact Jango had on the fanbase that fans, even now, want him to return from the dead to continue his story.
