Starbucks Iced Chai Latte

This recipe is a Starbucks recreation of their Iced Chai Latte. It’s quick and easy to make with just 3 ingredients.

The secret to making the drink taste exactly like the one at Starbucks is Tazo chai concentrate. Once you make this at home, you’ll never want to buy it from Starbucks again when when you can make it for a fraction of the price.

Note from Jee

Not all chai concentrates are the same since every company makes their own chai blend using different spices. Get the Tazo brand if you want it to taste like the one at Starbucks.

I’ve tried a lot of chai concentrates and I like the Tazo one the best since it has the best balance of spices. I’ve noticed a lot of other brands are too heavy with the ginger or cloves.

What is Chai?

Chai is a traditional drink from India. It’s made of black tea, milk, and spices like cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. In India, it’s known as masala chai. Masala means “spiced” and chai means “tea” in Hindi. People call the drink “chai tea” in the U.S., but this is incorrect because that translates to “tea tea.”

Because of the warming spices in the drink, you’ll get notes of cinnamon and cloves. The milk and sugar rounds out the flavor so it’s not too spicy.

  • Tazo Classic Chai Latte: This is the secret to making the drink taste exactly like the one at Starbucks. The chai concentrate is made with black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and vanilla. The concentrate is sweetened so there’s no need to add extra sugar.
  • Milk: Starbucks makes this drink with 2% milk but you can use any kind of milk you like, including oat and almond.
  • Ice: I like to use smaller ice cubes so that it chills the drink quicker, but not so small that it’ll completely water down the drink.

Step 2: Add ice.

Starbucks Note

The chai concentrate at Starbucks is made with less water so it’s a lot more concentrated and stronger than the packaged Tazo chai concentrate sold in stores. They add extra water to dilute the chai concentrate when making the drink at the store.
