Stardew Valley: Everything You Can Do With Mayor Lewis' Shorts
Maybe your like
Farming simulator Stardew Valley has plenty of content and mysteries without even factoring in the game's active modding community. The game famously leaves random Easter eggs for players to discover, which makes the game incredibly exciting to replay time and time again. While some secrets add to Stardew Valley's lore, others are more humorous. One such secret that some players may have missed involves the many uses of Mayor Lewis' lucky purple shorts, a hilarious side quest that gets even more attention in Concerned Ape's 1.6 Update.
In the third week of summer, players will receive a letter from Mayor Lewis, asking them to track down his missing purple shorts. He'll also ask that they get returned to him discreetly, indicating that there's a bit more going on than just a missing pair of underpants. While players can just hand the shorts over to the Mayor when they finally find them, they might miss a few other surprising uses for the shorts. The Stardew Valley 1.6 Update dropped new opportunities not to be missed when it comes to humiliating Stardew Valley's mayor.
Updated on June 3, 2025, by Andrea Sandoval: With the Stardew Valley 1.6.9. The patch is now available on all consoles and mobile devices, enabling players to access the new feature of Mayor Lewis' iconic Lucky Shorts. The previous glitch to obtaining Lewis' shorts no longer exists, but a new and even better trick has emerged to get this shameful piece of clothing. We have updated this article with all the details about Mayor Lewis' ridiculous shorts and all the new places in which players can use them since the most recent Stardew Valley update.
Where To Find Mayor Lewis' Purple Shorts In Stardew Valley
Players Can Find the Purple Shorts In Marnie's House
Image via ConcernedApe.Stardew Valley players might look for Mayor Lewis' purple shorts all over Pelican Town before finally realizing that the shorts had always been in one of the least expected places: Marnie's bedroom. This seems to be a joke to indicate that Mayor Lewis and Marnie are a secret couple and that Mayor Lewis accidentally left his underwear in Marnie's home. Why Mayor Lewis would not think of looking there in the first place or even why Marnie hadn't returned them to him are questions for another day.
In one event, if players follow the instructions of a secret note, they can stumble across Lewis and Marnie as they jump from a bush and run in different directions. The game never fully explains why Lewis and Marnie never go public with their relationship, though there is some suggestion that the Pelican town mayor believes this will scandalize his political position.

Stardew Valley's relationships are all about gift-giving - but which gifts are best for each villager?
Posts 1 By Andrea SandovalAs Stardew Valley players probably already know, the citizens of Pelican Town don't let the player enter their bedroom until their relationship has reached a certain level of closeness. Players who want to acquire the shorts, either to return them to Mayor Lewis or to do something mischievous with them, will have to befriend Marnie up to at least two hearts to unlock the ability to enter her bedroom and retrieve the infamous purple shorts.
Give Back Mayor Lewis' Shorts To Complete The Quest
Returning the Shorts Nets A Monetary Reward
Image via ConcernedApe.Those feeling a bit of sympathy towards the Mayor can choose to simply give him his shorts back. They can do this at any time, earning 750 gold and one friendship point with Mayor Lewis. While this is certainly the kind thing to do, and it makes it easier to befriend Mayor Lewis, where's the fun in that? There's a real case to be made that some secret uses for the shorts are actually the better choice for this side quest.
That being said, there's actually an Easter egg that requires returning the shorts to the mayor when he's at a specific location. However, since this location is Ginger Island, it's quite possible that a lot of players returned the shorts before getting to this part of the game. Waiting to return the famous Stardew Valley purple shorts when Mayor Lewis is visiting Ginger Island will unlock a unique beach attire for the mayor while also giving players the usual reward.
For 28 days, players can see the mayor wearing his purple shorts on the beach. It's a pretty simple Easter egg, but it's the only purple-shorts-related secret that still allows players to get the quest-related friendship points and gold. While returning them is a nice thing to do, there are a few extra options for more mischievous players that will lead to some hilarious situations.
Give Mayor Lewis Shorts To Marnie
Hand Over the Lucky Purples And See What Happens
Image via ConcernedApe.Before you get into the complicated pranks, give yourself a chuckle and try the direct approach, which is always the simplest. If you try giving the shorts to anyone save Mayor Lewis, you will probably receive a "Wrong person" statement in the corner of your screen. Anyone, that is, except for Marnie. Since Marnie and the Mayor are in a secret relationship, outing her provides a couple of chuckles. Her embarrassment doesn't seem to damage your friendship at all, so it's safe to do this with affecting relationship goals.

Stardew Valley is known for its colorful cast of characters, but what is each of the villagers' Myers Briggs personality type?
Posts By Andrea SandovalPay Marnie a visit at her ranch house when she is in and give the shorts to her. She will respond with a "Gah!" and then a stream of false starts before she finally claims she doesn't know what those shorts are. But the obvious embarrassment is worth the grin before you move on to high-stakes pranks.
Display The Mayor's Lucky Purple Shorts During The Fair
Airing Mayor Lewis' Dirty Laundry Earns The Player Hush Money
Image via ConcernedApe.Those looking to literally air the mayor's dirty laundry out in public can do so by displaying the shorts in their grange during the Stardew Valley Fair. The Fair happens every Fall on Tuesday the 16th, and one of the mayoral events during the Fair is a showcase that allows the town's farmers to display their harvest. Players can put artisan goods, crops, fish, gems, cooked meals, and many more different kinds of items on display in order to win the grand prize.
Choosing to place the mayor's purple shorts anywhere in the grange will lead to a unique response from Mayor Lewis, who will understandably be upset at the player's prank. The player will be disqualified from the showcase but will also be offered 750 Star Tokens to take the shorts off display. Even though the first prize is usually 1000 Star Tokens, this is the second-highest number of Star Tokens available from the showcase, making it a viable option if players don't have anything else to display.
Add Mayor Lewis' Purple Shorts to the Pot During the Luau
The Mayor Won't Appreciate Finding His Shorts In the Stew
Image via ConcernedApe.The yearly Luau festival offers another creative use for the Mayor's purple shorts. During the Luau, residents of Pelican Town can add an edible and uncooked ingredient to the community soup pot. The item added will affect the flavor of the soup, with better quality ingredients earning more friendship points with the villagers. The main exception to the edible and uncooked rule is the Mayor's shorts.
Players should keep in mind that doing this will negate any other Stardew Valley food ingredients added to the pot, including those added by other players in a multiplayer game. While players won't gain or lose friendship points by adding Mayor Lewis' purple shorts, they will provoke a unique response from Mayor Lewis and the governor.

Posts By Lev BarrettThe latter will note that the soup has a "tangy" flavor before he realizes that there's a pair of shorts floating in his bowl, which makes for a hilarious Easter egg. Considering how uptight Mayor Lewis is about impressing the Governor, this attempt to lighten the mood doesn't exactly go over well, but no one actually knows who put the shorts in the pot, so there aren't really any negative consequences for the player.
Wear The Mayor's Lucky Purple Shorts For Unique Reactions
Getting Under Mayor Lewis' And Marnie's Skin Is Easy
Another use for Mayor Lewis' purple shorts involves tailoring them so that the player can wear them. Combining the shorts with a gold bar on a sewing machine will allow players to create a version of the shorts they can wear themselves. They don't provide any unique bonuses, despite being described as lucky, although wearing them does provoke some unique responses from Mayor Lewis and Marnie.
If Lewis sees the player wearing his lucky purple shorts, he'll leap up in surprise before expressing annoyance. Marnie, on the other hand, will be a bit more receptive to the player's choice of fashion by giggling. Other than that, there isn't any new dialogue or unique rewards. The shorts can still be used for any of the previously mentioned secrets or can just be handed back to Mayor Lewis for the usual 750 gold reward, so this is a great way of using the shorts and still managing to get the reward.
Watch Mayor Lewis in His Lucky Shorts at Ginger Island's Resort
It May Take a While, But It's Worth It
Image via ConcernedApe.Whether players decide to humiliate Lewis with his Lucky shorts or to discreetly give them back to him, the only way actually to see the Mayor in the shorts is to gift them to him at the Ginger Island Resort. This is pretty time-consuming, and it's likely players have already given Lewis his shorts back by the time they discover both the island and the resort. However, for those lucky players who decided to keep the shorts for themselves, now they can gift them to Lewis at the resort and watch him casually stroll in them around the beach.
For Mayor Lewis to visit Ginger Island, players first will have to restore the resort in the Southern area of the Beach. This requires collecting as many Golden Walnuts as possible and building other areas of the island first. Once a Parrot requires 20 Golden Walnuts to fix the Resort, and players pay for the service, the Resort will be up and running. This means several characters from Pelican Town, including Mayor Lewis, will visit the island from time to time.

A gamer's favourite cheat code made its way into Stardew Valley.
Posts 1 By Elena ChapellaWhile a lot of characters change into bathing suits or more comfy clothing at Ginger Island, Mayor Lewis usually keeps his regular clothing. So, not only will players get to see Lewis wear his humiliating shorts, but this is the only way in which they will get to see Lewis in casual beach attire. Still, this isn't one of the funniest things players can do with the shorts, and they should probably leave it until they have already exhausted all the other hilarious options.
Use Mayor Lewis' Purple Shorts as a Horrifying Decoration
These Shorts Make for a Great Centerpiece!
Stardew Valley's update 1.6. brought even more precious Easter eggs to make the most out of Mayor Lewis' Purple shorts. The shorts can be placed on the table or at any location where players typically place items. However, now players can also display these beautiful shorts in their fish tank. It doesn't look particularly good, and who knows how the fish feel about this development, but it's a fun thing to do even if, unfortunately, Mayor Lewis will never know about it.

Another special thing people can now do with Mayor Lewis' shorts is put them in their Advanced Iridium Rod. This is amazing because when players fish, they see the shorts attached to the rod, and it looks pretty funny. Additionally, they serve a great purpose: the shorts protect the second bobber, allowing it to last longer. Of course, the shorts will also occupy one of the bobber slots, but honestly, it's worth it to see those shorts floating in the sea.
Obtain Multiple Pairs Of Mayor Lewis' Shorts
Players Can Keep the Shenanigans Going On Forever
Image via ConcernedApe.Unfortunately, for Stardew Valley tricksters looking for yearly chuckles, the never-ending supply of Mayor Lewis' lucky purple shorts that could be obtained using a simple hack, introduced in Patch 1.5., no longer exists. Crafting and then equipping a staircase in the player character's pants slot was used to turn the stairs into a pair of gold-trimmed lucky purple shorts. This could be done an infinite number of times, creating a never-ending supply of lucky shorts that could be used to humiliate Mayor Lewis all year, every year.
However, Concerned Ape's 1.6 patch added another exciting trick to pick up a pair of the Mayor's shorts in honor of the previous glitch. Taking a staircase into his bedroom and going down into the basement presents an opportunity to find and pick up a pair, but players need to be careful. After navigating the basement maze and picking up the shorts from the floor, an animated and enraged pair of lucky shorts appears and attacks the player. Players won't be able to hurt or kill the Lucky Shorts, only try to avoid them whenever possible.

Posts By Andrea SandovalPlayers need to take into account that to reach the shorts, they not only need to solve the maze but also find a secret door located on the lower-left side of the screen. Once players arrive, they need to walk directly towards the wall and then turn to the right. When they reach the area of the shorts, another hidden door will appear, allowing the player to access that area.
While this battle may not be challenging for experienced players, lower-level characters should definitely carry a bit of food or healing items to ensure they don't wind up in Harvey's clinic after losing a battle against the mayor's underpants! This exploit can be performed repeatedly, granting the player an infinite supply of shorts for any humiliating pranks they have planned.
