Stardew Valley Fishing: How To Fish, All Spring, Summer, Fall And ...

Fish are an important resource in Stardew Valley for, not only can they be sold, but you can use them in various recipes or breed them in fish ponds in return for useful items.

Each season - Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter - has a variety of fish for you to catch. Once you’ve mastered fishing, there’s even five Legendary Fish for you to hunt down. The introduction of Ginger Island in the 1.5 update for Stardew Valley also brought a selection of fish who can only be caught in the island’s waters. Don’t forget to learn how to fish first though!

You will also need to catch specific fish to complete the Fish Tank Community Center bundle - from one's dwelling in a lake deep within the mines and others swimming in the forest river.

Below you’ll find every Stardew Valley fish listed by season, along with the Ginger Island fish list, the Night Market fish and where to find the Legendary Fish.

Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley explained

Hidden beneath the waters of Stardew Valley, there are five Legendary Fish waiting to test your skill at fishing. Each fish can be found in a specific location and will test your reaction time in the fishing minigame. All, except the Mutant Carp, require you to have a specific Fishing Level, or higher, to catch it.

You'll know when you have a Legendary Fish on the line, because the little fish in the mini-game will be wearing a hat.

If the fish has a hat, then its a legendary.

There is only one of each Legendary Fish per save file in Stardew Valley, so decide carefully what you want to do with yours - do you want to sell it for a nice lump of cash or are you keeping it for bragging rights?

Thankfully, these fish do not appear in specific seasons so it is possible to complete in this time frame. It's important to remember, however, these fish do require the same Fishing Level, appear in the same locations and have the same difficulty as the previous Legendary Fish. Though you can catch multiple versions of these fish!

Here's a run down on how to find the second set of Legendary Fish:

Night Market Fish in Stardew Valley explained

The Night Market runs on the 15th, 16th and 17th of Winter at The Beach from 5pm to 2am. There are a variety of activities for you to partake in during this event, but the fishing related one is the Submarine Ride.

The Submarine Ride runs between 5pm to 11pm and will take you on a deep sea fishing tour for 1,000g.

The Submarine Ride can be found on the far left of the market.

The journey to the sea floor takes 30 in-game minutes there and back - an hour in total - so, if you're planning on using the submarine, it's a good idea to dedicate a whole night of the Night Market to pure fishing; especially since there are three fish that can only be caught on the submarine.

Below you'll find the fish that are exclusive to the Night Market, along with the other fish that and other items that you might catch:

Fish exclusive to the Night Market Submarine:

  • Blobfish
  • Midnight Squid
  • Spook Fish

Other fish you can catch:

  • Octopus
  • Sea Cucumber
  • Super Cucumber

Items you can catch:

  • Pearl
  • Seaweed
  • Sea Jelly
