Disconnect the battery, remove the wiring from the starter, then there are two bolts that holds it to the engine / transmission. This guide will walk you through the steps with instruction in the diagrams below to help you with your car. https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-starter-motor Check out the diagrams (Below). As you can see from the power distribution diagram, there is no direct connection. Was this answer helpful?YesNo+1 Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:38 PM (Merged)

Hello, Have you check the condition of the battery? Or tried to jump start it? Also check the ground cable. To get codes go by your local auto zone they will pull them for free Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:38 PM (Merged)

It sounds like the solenoid went bad. Disconnect the neg terminal from the battery. Remove the wiring from the starter and mark it to make it easy to replace. There are two bolts that hold the starter in place. Remove them and remove the starter. Reverse sequence to replace. Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:39 PM (Merged)

Replaced starter turn key nothing happens Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Check to see if there is power to the starter. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for voltage to the smaller wire. You should have 12v Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Thanks for taking my question. Today I went to replace my starter, what I thought would be pretty simple. Well in working in the tight confines under the truck, I connected the smaller of the wires to the wrong post on the starter. When I went to start the truck I saw some smoke coming from under the hood. I found my mistake and corrected it, but a friend thinks I blew a fuse somewhere. Do you have any suggestions on where I could find it? Matt Was this answer helpful?YesNo+1 Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Thanks, I had checked the crank fuse already but will check the alternator link like you suggested. I do recall seeing smoke from that area at the time. Can you tell me the best way to test? Voltmeter? Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

RASMATAZ
You can do it with the voltmeter or just a test light before and after the link. Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

I am having trouble locating the links you referred to. Are they actually connected to the alternator? I have only found one connector to the alternator. Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Check the one too-the others could be down at the starter Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

When reconnecting the battery after starter replacement, the starter fires and engine immediately tries to turn over without key in ignition or switch turned to on position. Why? I am frustrated and out of thoughts. Thanks Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Check the small wire on the starter solenoid. It is likely mispositioned and is touching the large terminal with the battery cable attached to it. If that is not the case, disconnect that smaller wire from the solenoid. If the starter still engages when you connect the battery cable, the plunger with contact disc is stuck inside the solenoid. Have the new starter replaced under warranty. Was this answer helpful?YesNo+1 Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:40 PM (Merged)

Have removed all mounting bolts and brackets from starter on 1994 chevy s-10. Starter is hanging loose but am unable to remove it from vehicle. Do I need to remove transmission bell housing (flywheel cover) to remove starter or is there another trick to this? Was this answer helpful?YesNo Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:41 PM (Merged)

JACOBANDNICKOLAS
Nothing else needs removed. If you removed the mounting bolts, it should come out. Was this answer helpful?YesNo-1 Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 AT 5:41 PM (Merged)

I have a 1994 s-10 4x4, manual, and there was two ways I could get the starter out. Either remove the bell housing of the transmission or take the the solenoid off the starter. With the solenoid on the starter the assembly could not come out between the frame and bell housing, but if you removed it there would be enough room to remove it.
