More News The Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island is probably one of the most celebrated places to visit in the whole of the city and was a gift from France. Initially in 1886, the statue was placed on its pedestal in New York’s harbor. Since then, the statue has been a huge tourist magnet and annually draws nearly 3.5 million visitors. Besides the Statue of Liberty, New York City is all set to reopen other cultural institutes as well, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art which will open its gates to tourists on August 29, and the American Museum of Natural History on September 9.Other than that, the 9/11 Memorial Museum will also reopen on its anniversary, the day when the terrorist attacks took place years ago. Alice Greenwald, the 9/11 museum's president and CEO, in a statement said, "We are extremely pleased to announce the reopening of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, a physical testament to the triumph of hope and our potential for resilience in the face of adversity and unfathomable loss." According to the officials, the museum will first open to the relatives and dear ones of those who lost their lives in the attack and then to the public.
