Stevens Pass has endured hardships this season. A lack of staffing has kept several chairlifts from spinning over the last month even though they’ve had plenty of snowfall and hundreds if not thousands of season-pass holders have filed complaints to Stevens Pass’ owner and operator, Vail Resorts, for a variety of reasons. But now things are looking up for the Washington ski area.

On Friday, Stevens Pass spun seven of its 10 chairlifts, allowing access to about 85% of its terrain—the most since the ski area opened for the season Dec. 14, according to The Seattle Times. The resort’s legendary backside is currently open for the first time this season, and pass holders are beginning to feel optimistic about the remainder of the season. Especially since Steven Pass announced that it will be extending its ski season this year.

Stevens Pass will remain open at least through the end of April, snow permitting, Interim general manager Tom Fortune told The Seattle Times in an interview. The ski area had originally planned to close on April 17, 2022, but will remain open through April and possibly longer, depending on current conditions. According to Fortune, Stevens Pass pass holders can expect even more improvements in the coming weeks.
