Stone Cold Steve Austin Stuns WrestleMania Crowd With One Last ...

Stone Cold Steve Austin stunned everyone who tuned into WrestleMania 38 by competing in one more WWE match. WWE has had a very unique build up to its biggest premium live event of the year. While the WrestleMania 38 card contained some class WWE championship matches such as Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar and Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey, WWE decided to include some people who aren't currently active superstars on their roster in the event. The likes of Johnny Knoxville and Logan Paul both found themselves scheduled to be in matches in this year's show of shows, but perhaps the more exciting is the return of WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Stone Cold wrestled his last match in WWE 19 years ago against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at WrestleMania XIX and had not made an in ring return since. Multiple neck and knee injuries caused Stone Cold to retire early and have kept him from wrestling. However, WWE is well aware that Stone Cold is one of their biggest draws of all time so they made sure to include him in this year's WrestleMania, pairing him in a talk-show segment with Kevin Owens. Stone Cold occasionally returns to WWE for brief moments where he’ll cut a promo, drink some beer, and hit someone with a Stone Cold Stunner, so WWE fans weren’t expecting anything mind-blowing from the upcoming confrontation.

During his WrestleMania 38 appearance, however, Stone Cold accepted a challenge from Owens to have a “No Hold Barred” match in the main event slot. After keeping up the facade of simply being a talk-show for a few moments, Stone Cold and Owens would have a 14 minute match that was full of both nostalgia and brutality. Highlights include Stone Cold being suplexed onto exposed concrete, hitting Owens with a Stone Cold Stunner, and celebrating with some traditional Broken Skull IPA after being victorious in his in-ring return in his home state of Texas.

This moment left fans in awe as they watched WrestleMania 38 not expecting Stone Cold to lace up his boots one last time. Stone Cold has teased an in-ring return in the past, but most believed the severity of his past injuries would keep that from being a reality. He’d specifically mentioned that the training for even a one-night return may be too much for his body, but he has overcome the odds and managed to headline WrestleMania one last time. Stone Cold commented after his match saying he was honored to be able to “end” his career in the same city he started it.
The events of Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 have fans all over speculation as to what this means for Stone Cold’s career. While all reports seem to suggest this was “one last can” for Stone Cold, many wonder if this may be the start of Stone Cold making occasional returns to the ring. A very similar situation occurred with WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg, who wrestled multiple times after originally coming back for “one more match”, going as far as to even win the company's top championship on two separate occasions. WWE is skilled at surprising its fans so only time will tell what is to come of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s career, but perhaps this won't actually be the final time he steps into the ring.
