Stop Over Ironing Your Work! - The Do's And Do Not's Of Perler Beads

Now Playing Tracks

I don’t know how many times I saw a epic piece be ruined by over ironing. I know some times there is that one spot that won’t melt, but I mean there are people just over ironing to the point I see the round bead turn into a square.

When you over iron, you take away the mystery and also you are dulling down the color.

Tip:

  • Pre heat your iron on a low-medium heat
  • Make sure you are ironing on a flat surface
  • Iron your sheet on a flat surface before using it on your art work (This will keep it flat & from moving and will take out any fold lines that you don’t want left in your work)
  • Use a flat bottom iron and not a steam one (The beads will get caught in the holes and end up getting knocked out of place).
  • Always iron in circular motion and not up/down (This will give off even heat)
  • Time your ironing from 20-45 seconds (Depending on the size. Small: 20 seconds Medium-Large: 45(+) seconds
  • Make sure you can still see the bead holes (They should look a bit smaller. If it looks like a “.” instead of a lower case “o”, then your heat is too high or you was working in that area too much )
  • You want your beads to go from O-o

Once you have master the technique, you will have great art work to share with everyone.

A few comments have already mentioned it, but it’s not considered over-ironing when the round beads turn square. That’s...
