Like most I clean out my oil rigs with 99% Iso when they get really grimy, although I usually save it in a large mason jar until it's full then I'll evap and do whatever with it after that. I've noticed that after a large amount of claim infused iso sits around for awhile, something settles out of solution and collects at the bottom of the jar. It's a bunch of whitish flakes/particles that loosely clump together into a slushy looking layer at the bottom, but then remix back into solution if the jar is disturbed. I'm thinking this is probably waxes/fats from the BHO settling out of the alcohol? I was worried maybe it was some type of bacteria or fungus, then I remembered it's sitting in 99% iso, so probably not the case. But I'm surprised that waxes would settle out so easily, as usually long periods of sub-zero temps are required to get the waxes to separate out of BHO. The amount of BHO ran through the rigs to get the claim is around an ounce of BHO probably, so I guess that would make sense from a quantity standpoint that it's waxes. Does reclaim have different properties compared to BHO that would let the waxes settle out easier, or do you think this is something else? I was thinking maybe minerals or something in the water that keeps collecting in the claim clumps in the rig that just build up and build up after many water changes, but then gets released when dissolved in iso. Sorry I don't have a pic, I just sucked the super clear solution on the top and threw out the bottom "layer" of reclaim, it wasn't a large amount, maybe a 1/8th inch layer at the bottom of a large mason jar. Claim tasted fine and seemed no different than stuff that was directly taken from an oil rig so I'm not sure what the deal is, I'm leaning/hoping towards simple plant waxes being the culprit but just figured I'd check in here to see if anyone else had any ideas. One last bit of data to help with any guesses, I did suck up some of the "dirty" stuff at the bottom and ran it through a large syringe with a purified cotton ball stuffed in the base, and it seemed to do little if anything to remove the cloudy white stuff, so it's pretty fine/small whatever it is. Thanks for taking a look guys! SnapsProvolone

Don't know what it is for sure but a cleanup might be in order. http://skunkpharmresearch.com/getting-the-green-and-waxes-out-afterwards/ Read about the Alcohol Hexane wash of roaches... Twitch

That is the all the carbon and bullshit fats waxes lipids like you listed, what I do is clean my rigs with everclear then place in the freezer for 48 hours, then I run it through my 2 to 5 micron buchner funnel which is bad ass. I end up with an actually sweet dabable sap.

Chilling the iso mostly just speeds up the process. The plant waxes are significantly less polar than the iso. Here is a jar of ethanol solution that I set on the shelf, instead of the freezer, and a month later, a high percent of the waxes had all settled out naturally.

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like it's nothing to worry about. It actually works pretty well just letting it settle out and then sucking the clear stuff off the top with a syringe, it ends up exceptionally clear and tastes better than claim straight from a piece, but it's still reclaim... lol. Thanks again. D

So my situation is a little different my reclaim seems to be building up a foggy growth on some of the reclaim balls if they sit longer I have pics from my rig where only a tiny ball has it growing and the rest doesnt then I have pics of my dads rig which sits a lot longer and gets a ton of this stuff. I dont want to iso wash and use this stuff if its bacteria or fungus please anyone that knows what this is lmk is it just minerals? Do i have do dump all this claim?

Without a physical exam, I'm guessing, but it looks like a bacterial mat. When you feel it between you finger and thumb, does it feel slimmy/snotty?? If so, all is not lost, because the alcohol wash will kill them, and if you filter a second time at 0.2 micron with a syringe filter, you will take out all their dead carcasses. D

I havnt tried feeling it but I will deff do that today and get back to you on it bc I mean between 3 rigs I probly got a half oz of reclaim sitting and 1 of em got a ton of the white shit as you could see You must log in or register to reply here.
