Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (225g) frozen strawberries
  • 1 Tbsp (13g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (75g) quick-cooking tapioca pearls
  • 2 Tbsp (30ml) agave syrup maple syrup
  • ⅔ cup (160ml) unsweetened oat milk† any unsweetened plant-based milk of choice
  • 2 Tbsp (30ml) vegan whipping cream (optional)
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (220g) ice cubes

Optional toppings

  • fresh strawberries

Directions

  1. To a saucepan, add the frozen strawberries and sugar. Cook over medium heat until the strawberries have thawed. Use the back of a spoon to lightly mash the strawberries.
  2. Remove the pan from the stove and use an immersion blender or standing blender to purée the strawberries. Set aside to cool.
  3. Cook the tapioca pearls according to the package instructions. For us, this took 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the tapioca pearls, and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Add the pearls to a bowl and mix in the agave syrup.
  5. In a pitcher, combine the oat milk, whipping cream, and vanilla.
  6. Divide the tapioca pearls between your glasses, and spoon some of the strawberry purée over the pearls.
  7. Top with ice, followed by the vanilla cream milk. Finish with some fresh strawberries if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • †Nutrition tip: aim to use plant-based milk that is fortified with calcium.

Storage

  • This bubble tea is best enjoyed immediately.
  • The strawberry purée can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day.
  • The vanilla cream milk can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Hi

I was wondering which vegan whipping cream you suggest… is it coconut base ?

What about the bubble agave . Does it make the drink very sweet ?

PUL Team - March 20, 2025, 1 a.m.

Hey Pascale! Thanks for your interest in the strawberry bubble tea recipe 🤗 Coconut-based vegan whipping creams work well, although oat or soy-based versions are great too. For this recipe, we used the soy-based Alpro whipping cream. The agave adds sweetness, but since it’s mixed with the tapioca pearls, it won’t overpower the drink. Can can omit or reduce it, and adjust as needed to match your taste. We find it adds just a nice hint of sweetness!

Reply Avery - March 6, 2025, 10:37 p.m.

I foolishly bought fresh strawberries in Canada in March which means they were expensive and taste like absolutely nothing. HOWEVER, using them in this recipe brought out their strawberry flavour and I’m glad I could use them up! Very tasty drink

PUL Team - March 6, 2025, 11:26 p.m.

Yay so glad that the bubble tea recipe with strawberries was enjoyed, Avery! 🤗

Reply Lisbet - Aug. 12, 2024, 4:59 p.m.

My son made this for us and it is so delicious! Refreshing. He’s not a huge boba fan so used coconut jellies and it was yummm!

Reply Alexis - May 10, 2024, 9:26 p.m.

Oh actually I saw one of your responses to someone else and now I know I can use fresh strawberries

PUL Team - May 10, 2024, 9:30 p.m.

Hi Alexis! Indeed you can use fresh strawberries. We hope you enjoy the bubble tea 🙌

Reply Alexis - May 10, 2024, 9:21 p.m.

Hey! I was wondering if I could use fresh strawberries instead of frozen.

Reply Chrysiida - May 4, 2024, 4:53 p.m.

I was waiting for so long for strawberry season and as soon as I got some strawberries I made this milk for me and my friends! It was soooo delicious! We all loved it and I will be definitely be making it again now that I have the fruit!

PUL Team - May 6, 2024, 8:10 p.m.

Aww love it when fresh strawberries become available 🥰 so glad the bubble tea was enjoyed after waiting, Chrysiida!

Reply Ceci Gonzalez - Jan. 11, 2024, 1:02 a.m.

This drink was so refreshing and decadent! I loved that it wasn’t super sweet. My kids all loved it! Thank you

Reply Leanne - Aug. 9, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

I loved this recipe! Way easier than I was expecting and perfect sweetness for me ☺️ PUL never fails!!

Reply eidolon - Aug. 4, 2023, 12:52 a.m.

This is a great recipe, I would recommend making the strawberry sauce before hand so it has time to fully cool. We also used a tri berry mix because that’s what we had.

Reply Cecil - May 9, 2023, 4:21 p.m.

Where in Netherlands can I order quick cooking tapioca pearls?

PUL Team - May 9, 2023, 4:47 p.m.

Hey Cecil, we got ours at a local Asian supermarket (the Amazing Oriental in Eindhoven). You can try your local toko, or check out Amazing Oriental's webshop 🙂

Reply FoodieArc - April 27, 2023, 7:57 p.m.

Hi, If It's still allowed to use vanilla extract only not the pure one, for both Strawberry and Matcha flavor? Thank You!

PUL Team - April 29, 2023, 3:46 p.m.

Hey FoodieArc, we prefer pure vanilla extract because it has a stronger and more authentic vanilla flavour but you can use general vanilla extract if you'd like 🙂

Reply Steve H - April 11, 2023, 8:06 p.m.

I'm going to try this recipe. The Strawberry Milk Tea. So, I have a few questions if I may: 1. Where do I get those glasses and glass straws shown in the pictures/video? I was hoping for a link. 2. I'm not a fan of tapioca. So, should I still add Agave or Maple syrup to the drink? 3. Regardless of that answer, which is better to use Agave or maple syrup (in your opinion)? 4. The video didn't talk about the option of adding tea. I was wondering two things: what kind of tea is best and when in the process do you add it?Thank you for taking the time to read this message/post and get back to me.

PUL Team - April 12, 2023, 1:14 a.m.

Hey Steve! We'll list our answers in the same number layout: 1. We got the glasses and straws from an online shop in the Netherlands called FonQ. We've linked two similar ones in our shop here: https://amzn.to/3add0jV, https://amzn.to/3urpImd 🙂2. No need to use tapioca pearls. The syrup helps add a sweet flavour, so you could give the bubble tea a taste first, and then add syrup to desired sweetness. 3. Whatever syrup is most accessible! 4. Black or green tea would work nicely in this one. We've also heard positive reviews with matcha! You can add steeped tea in the pitcher in step five for ease.

We hope you enjoy the recipe if you're able to give it a try 🤗

Hey PUL team! I am Sophia and I am eleven years old. I recently started watching your videos on YouTube. I really enjoyed watching your video’s so I decided to check out your website. Soon I found myself reading your recipes and trying to figure out what recipe I should make. First I made your Chia Seed Pudding with Mixed Fruit for my parents. They really liked it! Then I was really interested in bubble tea, so I made the Strawberry Boba. It was amazing! My whole family loved it. Thanks for sharing such wonderful recipes! I can't wait to try out more of your recipes. Thanks PUL team!

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2023, 5:43 p.m.

Hi there, Sophia, welcome to the PUL community! It's so kind of you to make some of our recipes for your parents! We're thrilled the chia pudding and bubble tea were enjoyed. We hope you love the rest of the recipes too 🤗

Reply Patrick Illner - Feb. 3, 2023, 11:05 a.m.

This was so so delicious! A real treat for the palate :) But I would still have an idea :) Could you maybe make a video about how you built your website? For the people who also want to set up their own website? Maybe you have some useful tips Sadia :)

PUL Team - Feb. 4, 2023, 3:51 a.m.

Hey Patrick, so thrilled the bubble tea was enjoyed! A lovely suggestion as well. In the meantime in case it helps, for the first 4 years we used Wix to build and host our website. It has a great visual editor and we highly recommend it for anyone starting out with their own website. At the start of 2021, we moved over to the website you're currently on, which we designed and coded ourselves from the ground up. Hopefully we can share more on the process in the future 😃

Thank you for sharing this recipe and all of the bubble tea recipe. Just their pictures are enough to make me happy. I really love the strawberry vanilla plant based cream milk. It is wonderful!

PUL Team - Oct. 6, 2022, 5:01 p.m.

Aw thank you, Sakaoratana, you're too kind!

Reply José - Oct. 2, 2022, 1:44 p.m.

I love how easy to make this is and how cute it looks. It's very sweet so next time I'll be adding less agave syrup, also I was too impatient and the puree wasn't really cold when I used it so all the ice cubes melted really fast haha. But it was delicious anyway and next time I'll just need to be more patient :-) I found this also works as a strawberry milkshake without the tapioca, if that's not really your thing! (I just couldn't find it in the store haha) Thank you for this lovely recipe!

PUL Team - Oct. 5, 2022, 3:49 p.m.

So glad it was enjoyed, José, and yes patience is a virtue! Love the strawberry milkshake idea 😃

It means so much, Chhaya, thank you! Happy cooking 🤗

Reply Kathy M - Aug. 2, 2022, 3:30 p.m.

I wonder about the quality of the boba - heavily processed? What are the ingredients?

I made homemade boba from @emmymade and they were wonderful

PUL Team - Aug. 2, 2022, 7:04 p.m.

Hey Kathy, we used tapioca boba pearls from a local grocery store and the first three ingredients appear to be tapioca starch, water, and corn starch. Making homemade boba pearls is a lovely idea though if you have the time and ability to make them. This drink is also refreshing and delicious without the pearls so you could alternatively omit them if desired 🙂

Reply Mel - Aug. 1, 2022, 3:09 p.m.

Hi! Is it okay to use fresh strawberries instead of frozen? Or do they have to be frozen? Aiming to try this lovely recipe today!

This was my first time trying bubble tea/fruit drink and I loved it!! The sweetness was perfect and the strawberry and cream flavours alongside the chewy tapioca pearls were so delicious! I've been missing out! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Just need to purchase some reusable boba straws now as my regular ones aren't cutting it. 🙃

PUL Team - July 21, 2022, 6:15 a.m.

Woop woop! Beyond happy to hear your first bubble tea was a success, Charlotte, reusable boba straws are a lovely idea 😃
