Go back to my question iCloud iCloud on Mac User profile for user: mercadof mercadof Author User level: Level 1 82 points Stuck on Downloading Messages from iCloud

I Set up iCloud iMessage Syncing on all my devices yesterday; iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, and my Mac Pro. All of them synced up except my Mac Pro has been stuck on "Downloading Messages from iCloud" since yesterday (going on 24 hours now). I have quit the application, re-booted my computer, but to no avail. And yes, I updated both my MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro to the latest 10.13.5, as well as my iPhone and iPad to iOS 11.4. My iCloud account is properly set up on all my devices. I have a great internet connection (1 Gig) and no firewall issues. My MacBook Pro is on the same network as my Mac Pro and it updated perfectly and quickly.

Anyone else having this problem? I saw the same issue addressed on MacRumors.com but no solution yet.

I have a MacBook Pro 13" for work, a personal MacBook Air 13", and an iPhone 11 all using the same iCloud account. The MacBook Pro and iPhone work in unison but the MacBook Air isn't sync'ing but the settings or the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are identical. I have tried logging out of iMessage on the MacBook Air, using the "Sync Now" under preferences. I'm not sure if others are having this challenges, there is a configuration error somewhere, or there is a software update that I don't have. Thanks for your time. 1215 3
  • iMessage not synching on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) Hi. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) to replace my trusty old mid-2012 MacBook Air which was running Catalina. I've successfully set up my new MacBook Pro, with the exception of iMessage which is not synching to it. I've gone into preferences and it's set up exactly the same way as my MacBook Air which synchs with my iPhone SE without any problems as does my iPad mini 2. My MacBook Pro synched all my old messages but is not receiving new ones sent to my iPhone SE. I'm able to send messages using the MacBook Pro. Here's what I've tried: • Turning iMessages off on my iPhone SE • Turning off 'enable Messages in iCloud' on my MacBook Pro for five minutes • Signing out of my Apple ID in iMessage preferences on my MacBook Pro • Then turning iMessages on on my iPhone SE, logging back into Apple ID in iMessage preferences and turning on 'enable Messages in iCloud All that did was synch the newer messages I didn't receive to my MacBook Pro. However, new messages are still not appearing on my MacBook Pro. Any advice/assistance greatly appreciated! 2193 2
  • Messages (iMessages and Text messages) no longer syncing to my MacBook Pro Just noticed that my iMessages and text messages are no longer synching with my MacBook Pro. I have all the settings configured correctly, as described on the Apple Support pages. iMessages are enabled through iCloud for synching, Text Message Forwarding is enabled on all of my devices (iPad, iPhone, MacBook). Even the Sync Now button is not working under Message Preferances on the Mac. The synching starts but never finishes. I was away for 1 week and when I returned home, 156 messages will not synch with my MacBook. Rebooting the computer doesn't help. The messages are still synching between iPad and iPhone OK, just the Mac is not working anymore. HELP! 3086 1

I have same issue on my iPhone but I haven’t synced it to any other devices & my text messages will not send to recipient. So I effectively have no texting on my phone. ******!!!! It just started the downloading messages from iCloud today, earlier today it was fine but went to send a text & it wouldn’t send. Have no idea what happened to start this. Any ideas yet on why out of the blue this happens??

Hi mercadof,

RELAX and give it a go. I experienced the same situation and it is not a problem.

I would recommend you to let your device connected to WiFi and power. Usually in idle state your iPhone will get all the iMessages download in 4-5 hours (depend on the size of backup). There is absolutely no need to restart or logout login to your iCloud account.

Happy iPhonning. 🙂

Thanks for sharing both methods.

This sync in the cloud isn't a key feature for me so I'm going to stay on my first idea : let the 30 days go, wait for the * Messages_backup_which_I_think_is_faulty * to be deleted and start from scratch.

I've just noticed one thing. When Messages is disabled, I look in iCloud storage and I can how my storage is used between iBooks, Numbers and so... Messages was also there, with a size of 0 and the option to UNDO. Also, I could read how days left before permanent delete. I can't see this option anymore. Just Messages you can turn On or Off. My iPhone is running 11.4.1 *****

Hi to all,

Mine also has this same issue. It's been continuing to say "Downloading Messages from iCloud" for 2 days now. Reboots and restarts etc. haven't helped.

Any solutions offered by apple etc.?

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to chime in that I am also having issues with iMessage in the cloud syncing on my MacBook Pro. It doesn't say "downloading messages" however my MacBook just doesn't stay in sync with my iPhone. If I haven't been on my computer for several days... I may only get the last 5 messages or so of a conversation I've been having on my phone for many days. I find this frustrating for following conversations etc. that I have been having. I feel like this is possibly related.

I get the same as you, that my messages are done downloading and I am missing the whole month of August an all my texts. I should say that I set my phone up as new so I am downloading all my messages from the cloud. I have kept my phone charging for almost 3 days straight.

Hi it’s nearly the end of September 2018 and this is still an issue for me. With iOS 12.0 & Mojave out now there still isn’t a fix.

I’ve been with apple support for a week and no help. They just say log in & our, reset your phone... no other advice.... he actually said just get a new iPhone.

In addition to the iMessages problem of “downloading messages” , I also have an iCloud update problem with none of my files uploading on my iPhone Xs max/iPad mini. But uploading to iCloud via my Mac works.

When I try to upload to iCloud it says: waiting to upload & after a little while it says: upload error. I wish I wasn’t so invested into the apple ecosystem, and now I’m regretting it.

I am getting messages on the application. At the bottom is just continues to say: Downloading messages from iCloud with the animated progress bar.

Yeah me too. All this sign out and sign back in is annoying. Why doesn’t it just work?

I let it run for hours before trying what I tried. A new MacBook Pro should not take hours or days to sync 10 messages. Or in my case, none, since I deleted them all.

This is happening to me too. Using Activity Monitor I can see that nothing is actually downloading / there is no network activity.

It’s not a big issue for me. They just released the update. It’s not invasive.
