Outgoing Subawards

A subaward is a legal agreement between the UW and another organization that:

  • Creates a formal, collaborative “sponsored program” relationship with the other organization
  • Details roles, responsibilities, and expectations, and
  • Flows down terms & conditions from the UW’s prime award to the subrecipient.

A subaward is used when a substantive portion of the programmatic work in a project is conducted at another organization.

Prepare proposals with outgoing subawards.

Set up subaward requests.

Review the Subawards Checklist from Proposal to Closeout.

Incoming Subawards

An incoming subaward is when another institution (pass-through entity) receives funding and issues a subaward to the UW (subrecipient) for a portion of the project.

Review instructions for preparing and routing incoming subawards.
