Subnautica: Below Zero - Where To Find Lead - Game Rant

Subnautica: Below Zero pits players against the icy waters of a dangerous planet. In order to survive and thrive, players will need to collect a large number of raw materials. One of the most difficult of these to find is lead, which is a component needed for several recipes.

Lead in Subnautica: Below Zero

Lead is a necessary component for several recipes. Players will need it in order to create important things like the Prawn Suit, the foundations to build a strong base in Subnautica: Below Zero, modification stations, moonpools, and Reactor Rods. Unfortunately for players, it can be one of the hardest building materials to find. But there are some guaranteed places players will be able to find lead if they know where to look.

Locations of Lead

In order to get lead, players will have to look for a harvesting node, unlike the ore found on the seabed like Subnautica: Below Zero's Nickel Ore. Harvesting nodes are rocks that can be broken to get the precious building materials inside. While there are five different types of harvesting nodes, each with its own metals inside, only the Galena Outcrop gives lead when broken. These nodes can also contain titanium.

Galena Outcrops and the lead they contain can be found in several locations, including:

  • The Main Crystal Caves
  • East Arctic
  • Glacial Connection
  • The Main Lilypad Islands
  • Shallow Twisty Bridges
  • Thermal Spires
  • Twisty Bridges near where one of Subnautica: Below Zero's ancient obelisks is located

Killing Critters for Lead

There is also a creature in Subnautica: Below Zero that can drop lead when players defeat it. The Sea Monkey is a purple-and-teal-colored dolphin-like creature that delights in mischief. They will steal tools right out of the player's hands, then swim in circles around them to taunt them with the item. They will also swipe deployable items from players too before swimming away with them. The only way to get the item back is to kill the Sea Monkey and take it back.

Once players defeat them, Sea Monkeys will not only drop the item, but can also drop metals and ore of all varieties, resources like creepvine, and also lead. Players should not rely on Sea Monkeys for all their lead since they will need tons of the ore to make everything they need. However, if players do come across a Sea Monkey, they are worth dispatching for any of their possible drops.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
