These sugar free tea bombs will bring your favorite beverage to the next level without using isomalt crystals. They are crafted using loose or bagged tea encased in a decorative hard candy shell. As your drop the tea bomb in hot water, the sugar free shell melts, exploding the tea out into your mug. Be sure to give this recipe a try if you are looking for a fun twist on typical tea beverages.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered erythritol or sweetener of choice
  • 1/3 cup sugar-free honey
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • food coloring (optional)
  • loose tea or tea bags
  • silcone half moon mold

Step by Step Instructions

  • STEP 1

    Heat candy mixture

    Add powdered sweetener, sugar-free honey and water to a medium saucepan. Heat over medium high heat until a candy thermometer reaches 300 degrees F (about 5 minutes once boiling). Remove from the heat. Add a few drops of food coloring if using.

  • STEP 2

    Fill the molds

    Add about 1-2 tablespoons of the liquid candy mixture to a cavity of the mold and move the liquid up along the edges using a spoon or small paintbrush. Keeping pushing the liquid up until it hardens. Work quickly to ensure all the area is coated with the liquid. It's best to work with 2 cavities at a time. Repeat with remaining molds.

  • STEP 3

    Peel from mold

    Once the candy has hardened, peel away from the silicone mold. Add loose tea or a tea bag to six of the half moons.

    Seal the balls

    To seal the two halves together, heat a skillet over medium heat. Melt the edges of a half moon with no tea on the skillet. Then quickly place on top of the other half with the tea to seal. Repeat with remaining balls.

    How to use a tea bomb

    To use a tea bomb, place tea bomb in a large mug. Slowly pour hot water over the tea bomb and watch it explode out the tea leaves.

What Are Tea Bombs?

Sugar free tea bombs are sphere-shaped candy shells that contain tea. This lovely recipe was inspired by trendy hot chocolate bombs, which went viral on the social media platform TikTok last year. Much like their hot cocoa counterparts, these sugar free tea bombs boast a candy exterior shell that is then filled with tea leaves. Some have incorporated edible flowers, edible glitter or gold flakes for decoration as well. Flowering tea bombs with loose leaf tea are the prettiest so make sure you fill your tea with some tea flowers. But you can pretty much filled your tea globe with any type of tea from green tea, black tea to herbal tea.

Hard Candy Shell

The colorful hard candy shell used for this hot tea bomb recipe is so easy and fun to make. We incorporated a sugar-free sweetener (you can use monk fruit or erythritol or a blend) and keto honey to create these glass-like balls.  You may also add food coloring to the mixture. These gorgeous tea bombs make for a great Instagram photo opportunity. The mixture is then heated to form a liquid that is later poured into your silicone candy molds.

Silicone Mold

To create these tea bombs, we used half-moon shaped silicone molds. Silicone molds work best for this recipe since they are virtually effortless to use. In addition, they allow for the glass candy to remove with little to no breakage.

Although this recipe calls for round molds, feel free to incorporate a different shaped mold for this tasty tea bomb recipe. This sugar-free dish is entirely customizable, which allows you to get creative. For example, patriotic star-shaped molds would make for an excellent addition for your upcoming Fourth of July barbecue paired with this festive keto berry bundt cake.

Tips For Making These Lovely Tea Bombs

  • Be sure to quickly fill your silicone molds to ensure the liquid does not set. If this happens, it will be much more challenging to work with later.
  • Use a small paintbrush to drag the liquid up to the edges. Additionally, swirl the mold around so that the mixture coats all around the edges evenly.
  • As the candy starts to harden, reinforce the edges with more liquid candy. As it cools, the liquid tends to pool to the bottom, making the edges thin. Thus, supporting the edges will strengthen them to prevent any damage when removing the sugar-free candy half-moon balls from the mold.

Can I use a different sweetener instead of erythritol?

Absolutely! You can substitute erythritol with another sugar-free sweetener like stevia or monk fruit. Just make sure to adjust the quantity according to the sweetness level of your chosen sweetener.

What types of tea work best for the tea bombs?

You can use any loose tea or tea bags you enjoy! Herbal, black, green, or flavored teas all work wonderfully. Just keep in mind that stronger flavored teas will provide a more robust taste when the bomb is dissolved.

How should I store the tea bombs once they're made?

Store your tea bombs in an airtight container at room temperature. They will keep well for up to two weeks. Just make sure they are completely cooled and hardened before storing!

Can I make these tea bombs without food coloring?

Yes, you can definitely skip the food coloring! The tea bombs will still look great and taste delicious without it.

  1. I made these for a tea party with friends and they were a big hit. The shells hardened perfectly and melted just like the directions said. I used lavender tea and it turned out really pretty and tasty.
