Introduction

Summer Walker is an American professional singer-songwriter with an estimated net worth of $4 Million.

Career

Professional Singer-Songwriter

Before teaching herself to play the guitar, Walker ran a small cleaning business between 2016 and 2018 and worked as an exotic dancer in Atlanta.

After watching guitar tutorials on YouTube, Summer taught herself to play the guitar and then began performing song covers and posting her music videos online.

After being discovered by the Love Renaissance label, Walker signed on with them and Interscope Records in 2017.

Her debut mixtape, “Last Day of Summer,” was released in October 2018 with her lead single, “Girls Need Love,” as the main attraction. The mixtape went Platinum in 2019, and an R&B/Hip-Hop star was born, although she didn’t make it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Billboard Recognition

However, she made the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, a chart compiled by Billboard magazine with rankings based on sales, streams, and radio airplay.

After touring with 6lack in 2018, Apple Music acknowledged her achievements with a number 8 spot on the Up Next Artist of 2019 list. With the extra exposure, Walker became one of the most recognized R&B artists in the world, and her career took off in leaps and bounds.

She kicked off 2019 with the release of her debut extended play (EP) titled “Clear,” a collection of four acoustic tracks.

With her growing popularity, she collaborated with Drake and released a remix of her hit song, “Girls Need Love.” The song was well-received by her fans worldwide and was her first top 40 entry on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Releasing Her Debut Album in 2019

Working with the American record producer, rapper, and songwriter, London Holmes, also known as “London on da Track,” Walker started work on her next project.

She released her slow-groove debut studio album, “Over It,” in October 2019, which became an instant favorite due to its slow and sultry rhythms.

Walker invited Usher to feature on her song “Come Thru,” which she released as her third single on her “Over It” album in December 2019.

Her single, “Playing Games,” reached the US Top 20, and her album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album made a huge splash with on-demand streams breaking all previous records for a female R&B artist in its first week.

She then went on tour, appearing at nine venues before calling off the remaining 20 gigs due to her struggle with social anxiety.

Walker won a Soul Train Music Award that year and then collaborated with 21 Savage on his song “Secret” at the start of 2020. She then worked on a remix of Justin Bieber’s hit song “Yummy” before teaming up with rapper Khalid to perform a remix of his song “Eleven.”

Trouble in 2021

2021 started well for Summer with the birth of her child with London Holmes, but by the middle of the year, accusations of infidelity surfaced.

With an ugly and very public fight raging on Instagram, Summer’s mind wasn’t fully on her music, yet she still managed to release an album.

“Still Over It” surpassed Lemonade, Beyoncé’s album, selling 166,000 units in the first week alone, becoming the biggest R&B debut on the US albums chart.

Record-Breaking Songs in 2022

She appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and performed one of the hit songs from her latest album, “Still Over It.”

The song, “Body,” helped Summer to break the Apple Music record for the most album streams by a female artist in a single day. Her album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, and she tied with Taylor Swift by having 18 songs concurrently on the Billboard Hot 100.

Walker’s album, “Life on Earth,” was a huge hit as well, earning her a number 1 spot on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. Walker was also nominated for a Grammy in 2022 for her work with Kendrick Lamar on his hit track, “Purple Hearts.”
