Superman & Lois Revealed Clark's Secret To Lana - CBR

The following contains spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 2, Episode 11, "Truth and Consequences," which aired Tuesday, May 3, on The CW.

From the moment Superman & Lois was announced, fans were eager to learn if Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent would reveal his secret to Lana Lang. The Clark-Lana dynamic was a big part of Smallville, as well as other DC stories involving the Kents and Langs over the years. However, the show kept Superman's secret within the Kent family for the first season and a half, not wanting to add too much drama since Clark and his wife Lois Lane were already dealing with their sons: Jordan developed his own powers and Jonathan began to rebel.

In Season 2, it felt like the series was angling towards the truth emerging because of Lois and Lana also developing a close friendship. Lois was pivotal in Lana becoming the town's mayor and Jordan had been dating Lana's daughter Sarah, so it felt like the chat would be inevitable. In the appropriately titled "Truth and Consequences," the onus fell on Clark -- and with his family's support, he finally confessed to Lana that he was the Man of Steel.

Earlier in the episode, Lana saved Superman's life by removing Kryptonite shards caused by a bomb Evil Jon detonated when he came from the Bizarro World to merge with his Earth-Prime self. Clark realized he needed to tell the truth so Lana could be better protected. Superman & Lois was calling back to earlier in the season, when Clark felt guilty that he couldn't explain that he was stopping the evil versions of Ally Allston while Lana was winning the mayoral election. He believed Lana deserved better after being there for him and for his mother when he was in Metropolis.

Clark stopped Lana and let her know he understood the stressful day she had fighting Evil Jon. Superman had earlier told her that Jon was from another world and wasn't the Jon she knew, and Lana just needed time to process it. Clark took his glasses off, levitated and froze a tree with his breath. Lana was left with her jaw on the ground as Clark -- with a weight clearly lifted off his shoulders -- unveiled himself as Kal-El. The episode ended there, opening up a swath of possibilities for Lana and the Kents in Superman & Lois Season 2.

The big reveal will bring Lana and the Kents closer, but there could be tension if Lana doesn't want Sarah to know just about Jordan's Kryptonian heritage. Sarah might understand why he's been so busy and offer to start over, but Lana could have concerns over her daughter dating a literally hooded vigilante. It's also possible that Clark's secret spreads through Lana. Given how upset she was over Kyle's affair, Lana may not want to be a hypocrite and keep a secret from him, so she could inform her husband. The real Jonathan could also tell his girlfriend Candice if he believes it's okay now -- and Candice isn't exactly trustworthy.

Clark may have unintentionally opened a Pandora's Box, but at least it's a good move for him and Lana, who never got closure after he ditched Smallville. Clark coming clean with his best friend puts someone in his corner who's known him since childhood and who could help in ways Lois can't if the town ever turns on Superman. She can be a valuable ally to him on Superman & Lois just as she has been in stories past.

Superman & Lois returns May 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
