Supernatural: It's Now Officially Impossible To Watch All Of The Series ...

After years of being a mainstay in television due to its incredibly long-lasting run, The CW's Supernatural is finally coming to end. Though the show's final episode is still a good few days away, those looking to marathon the entire series might want to hold back on even trying. With 14 previous seasons to get through, most running 22 to 23 episodes each, catching up with Supernatural in time for the series finale is not only a Herculean feat in binge watching, it's also impossible. Given how close the show's last episode is to airing at the time of this article's publication, there's no way even the most dedicated viewer could take in every previous installment beforehand -- at least if they want to watch the show at regular speed.

The final episode of Supernatural ever will air on Nov. 19 in a little over a week. That's approximately 14,400 minutes or about 240 hours from today, Nov. 9. Though that sounds like a long time, it's actually not enough to watch the entire series so far in preparation for the finale.

Supernatural Season 15 Episode 16

Supernatural has currently aired 325 of its 327 episodes, which are all around 45 minutes each, adding up to a runtime of about 14,600+ minutes, exceeding the 14,400 minute countdown to the finale. So even if the viewer watched every episode of the show so far non-stop without any breaks in between, they'd still be several episodes short by the time the series finale airs.

This speaks to the longevity of Supernatural, which has continuously been one of the biggest shows on The CW. Around 15 years ago in 2006, the series, as well as the similarly long-lasting Smallville, were the only shows to survive the transition from The WB to The CW. Supernatural is now the last series from The WB-era on the network. There are a myriad of reasons behind its ongoing popularity. The biggest of these is the attractive stars, whose curmudgeonly brotherly love has continued to make the show a delight for The CW's target audience. Actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have remained incredibly enthusiastic about their roles on the show, and promised to keep the series alive for as long as they still had interest in doing it -- a promise they seem to have followed through on.

The show also features an interesting take on myths, urban legends and religion, blending them all together to make a slick yet spooky series. Considering the show debuted back in 2005, its sometimes gory horror elements could also be seen as a sort of predecessor to The Walking Dead. It made less than family-friendly paranormal scenarios more palatable to general viewers while still keeping things sexy enough for a young-adult audience.

The length of Supernatural may have kept some from ever diving into it. Unfortunately, the time to catch up before the grand finale is long gone. Current fans wanting to look back at the series so far should probably just hit the highlights, but new fans may be best off making their peace with the fact that they will have to complete their first watch of the mythology-heavy show after the series finale is in the rearview mirror.
