System Software Update

Always update your PS4® system to the latest version of the system software. By updating, you'll enjoy additional features, improved usability, and enhanced security.

Select (Settings) > [System Software Update] to make sure your system has the latest version of the system software. If there is an update file for a later version, it automatically downloads. You can continue to use your system while downloading. When downloading is complete, a pop-up notification appears in the upper left corner of the screen. Select the notification under (Notifications) while viewing the function area, select the appropriate item from (Downloads), and then follow the on-screen instructions to perform the installation.

Notices

  • Do not turn off your PS4® system during the installation. Interrupting the installation could damage your system.
  • Update files might also be included on game discs. When you play a disc that contains a more recent version of the system software, a screen will be displayed to guide you through the update process. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the update.
  • You can also use an update file stored on a USB storage device to update the system software. For details, visit the customer support website for your country or region.
