Book Sales

As we briefly mentioned in the introduction, Jakes has published more than 40 books during his career, typically covering the topics of self-development, motivation, and purpose. Many of these books have reached the New York Times bestseller list, and while we don’t have sales numbers for every book he’s published, here’s what we do know.

In a 2015 interview with Black Enterprise, the publisher reported that Jakes had sold over 20 million copies of his books, generating over $115 million in gross revenues. This figure is from 2015, and the bishop has published three additional books since then, so the numbers have most definitely increased. His best-selling books include Woman, Thou Art Loosed!, which sold over 3 million copies across the original and large-print editions.

Defamation Lawsuit

In recent years, a fellow pastor, Duane Youngblood, made public allegations against T.D. Jakes, claiming that Jakes attempted to sexually assault him when he was just 18 or 19 years old. According to the New York Post, Youngblood himself is a registered sex offender and once pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two teenage boys.

As a result of the allegations, which Jakes publicly denies, in November 2024, he filed a defamation lawsuit against YoungBlood in the state of Pennsylvania. In the suit, T.D.’s legal team claimed that before Youngblood went public with the accusations, he allegedly demanded that Jakes pay him $6 million to keep quiet, otherwise known as extortion. Duane has stated that this was never the case and that he never requested any form of payment.

The case is currently ongoing, and no further updates have been given.

Real Estate

T.D. Jakes owns a massive 14,045 square foot slice of heaven in Fort Worth. He purchased the mansion for $5.5 million in December 2004. The estate features four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and sits on 17.8 acres of land. Amenities include a wet bar, a 7-car garage, and a swimming pool.
