OMG Girlz Lawsuit

In January 2023, T.I. joined his wife, Tiny Harris, in a lawsuit against the toymaker MGA Entertainment, fighting over the intellectual property rights of the teen pop group OMG Girlz. Formed by Tiny in 2009, the likeness of the OMG Girlz members had allegedly been used for MGA’s L.O.L. Surprise OMG Dolls.

After the suit against MGA was declared a mistrial, T.I. and Tiny Harris returned to court later that year, reigniting the case that had begun in 2021 when Tiny initially called out MGA for stealing the group’s likeness. On May 26th, 2023, the California federal jury found that MGA had not infringed upon the likeness or identity of the OMG Girlz group, bringing the almost $100 million legal battle to an end.

However, it didn’t stop there, as MGA hit back at T.I. and Tiny Harris in June 2023, demanding repayment of $6 million in legal bills and claiming their initial lawsuit had been “frivolous.” T.I. defended the decision to file the initial lawsuit later that year and refuted accusations that it had been a money grab. Senior U.S. District Judge James Selna granted a third attempt at the lawsuit against MGA in September 2023, although a trial date has not yet been set.

Tax Issues

In 2015, T.I. and his wife were issued tax liens by the IRS on property and assets to cover the $4.5 million he owed in unpaid taxes to the federal government. The first tax lien stated that he owed $1,397,283.47 in unpaid taxes for 2012, with a second lien amounting to $3,173,476.39 for taxes owed on his income in 2013.

While the outcome of the tax liens isn’t known, the rapper’s representatives told reporters at the time that efforts were being made with the appropriate parties to resolve the matter.
