Seeing Stars: Free Tickets to Studio Tapings taped at the El Capitan Theatre (6838 Hollywood Blvd, at Highland Avenue)

I must admit that I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel or his show. There's something about a guy over 45 still doing wise-ass frat-boy humor that puts me off.

But nonetheless, the guy has his fans, so to each his own.

And what's more important, he has had some pretty good celebs on his show. Since this is a website about seeing stars in person, the show fits the bill.

Especially since NBC made the mistake of moving "The Tonight Show" from L.A. to N.Y.C.

As a result, Kimmel should find it much easier to book L.A's celebrity guests, who would now have to fly all the way to New York if they wanted to appear on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show.

Best of all, perhaps, the "The Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show is taped right in the very heart of Hollywood, in the former Masonic Hall right next door to the El Capitan Theatre, right across the street from the Hollywood & Highland center, a few steps from Kodak Theatre (where the annual Oscars show is held) and Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

So if you're in town taking in the sights after dark in Hollywood, you can just stroll on over to the El Capitan and see some stars, without trekking all the way out to the Valley for a taping.

It's good to see some TV production returning to Hollywood Blvd.

Early guests on the show included Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, The Rock, David Boreanaz, Quentin Tarantino, Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards, Shannon Elizabeth, Andy Dick, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, David Duchovny, Larry King, David Spade, Ed Begley, Jr, Regis Philbin, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Bonnie Hunt, Diane Sawyer, Nick Lachey, Luke Perry, William H. Macy, Lou Ferrigno, Seth Green, Martin Short, Roseanne, Jeri Ryan, Sara Rue, Jim Belushi, George Lopez, plus sports stars like Shaquille O'Neal, Serena Williams and Mike Tyson, and live performances from musical guests ranging from Marilyn Manson to Barry Manilow, including Usher, No Doubt, Yoko Ono, Snoop Dogg, Clay Aiken, Counting Crowes, Enrique Iglesias, Toby Keith, Alanis Morissette, DMX, Lenny Kravitz, LeAnn Rimes, Lionel Richie and Coldplay. He's even had puppets like Kermit the Frog & Alf.

It pays to check ahead, though. You can get a list of the week's upcoming guests on the show at this link: http://www.allamericanspeakers.com/Jimmy-Kimmel-Show.php.

The show tapes live most week nights at 7:00 pm.

Like virtually all TV tapings, tickets to join the show's studio audience are free, and you can get them online. Unfortunately, on their website they do ask you to go through something of a song & dance to get them. First, go to this link, choose a date for the show you want to attend, click on the "Get Free Tickets" button, and tell them how many tickets you need. Then they force you to register, choose a password, and verify your email address before you can get the tickets.

Again, these tickets are free - so, don't pay anyone for your free tickets. And be warned: they want to make sure they have a full house, so tickets are also given out slightly in excess of capacity, which means that you're not guaranteed a seat, even with a ticket. So show up early.

Getting there: If you're visiting downtown Hollywood, you won't have to go far. The El Capitan Theatre is located right in the center of the new Hollywood, literally across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre.
