Between Tarek El Moussa's hit show Flip or Flop and his candid posts on social media, the realtor-turned-reality TV host is incredibly open about his life. Still, there are some things fans may not know about the star—for example, the origin of his interesting surname.

"I'm half Middle-Eastern, so it comes from Middle-Eastern descent," Tarek told us while filming the most recent season of the series. "My dad was raised Catholic in the Middle East in Lebanon and then Egypt. My mom's from Belgium and my dad moved to Europe when he was in his late teens."

Correct answer: Tär-ek with a short A sound, as in the word car.

While Tarek's ethnicity is half Middle-Eastern, his nationality is American, as he was born and raised in the United States.

Tarek's two children with Christina, Taylor El Moussa and Brayden El Moussa, share his last name, as does his sister, Dominique.

Tarek has a great relationship with his family, including his mother, father, and stepfather, who all live close by and lend a hand with the kids from time to time.

"I have a very, very close family, so my parents come over for a few days a week," he said. "We're all about family and we all spend a lot of time together."

El Moussa may be unique, but it's become a household name since the former couple was discovered. Christina's maiden name was Christina Meursinge Haack. Post-divorce, she kept her ex-husband's last name.

When asked if she'd ever drop the El Moussa now that they're divorced, Christina, who is currently dating boyfriend Ant Anstead, told us: "I would change it but no plans to change it anytime soon."
