  • Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Tattoo Redo is a reality show where people who have bad tattoos get new ones to cover them up. Participants and a friend or loved one meet with one of a panel of five tattoo artists; the twist is that the friend or loved one gets to choose the new tattoo. Violence and sexual content sometimes show up in the tattoos or in discussion. For example, one of the bad tattoos is an explicit sexual quote, while one of the replacement tattoos is a horror-inspired tattoo of a knife through a cat's head. The show's entertainment value comes from revealing the bad tattoos and from the suspense of whether the participants will like the new tattoo, but the show also talks a lot about the craft of tattooing and the creative, artistic choices that are made along the way.

What's the Story?

Tattoo Redo takes terrible tattoos and turns them into incredible new body art. In each episode, participants come in with bad tats and bad stories, and one of five in-house artists fixes them with a new piece. The twist is that the new tattoos are chosen by the participants' friends or romantic partners, and they won't know what they're getting until after it's done.

Is It Any Good?

Our review: Parents say : Not yet rated Kids say (1 ):

There's a little thrill that happens every time a bad tattoo gets revealed--that's what this reality show is counting on, though the shockingly bad ones are rare. Otherwise, Tattoo Redo often feels like a missed opportunity. Though the art and creative decision making of tattoing is discussed throughout, the new tattoos themselves often feel fairly mundane. Plus they're essentially just drawing over the bad tattoos, rather than legitimately trying to turn them into something new.
