The teres minor of the rotator cuff group. The supraspinatus and infraspinatus have been ghosted in.

The teres minor is one of the four Rotator Cuff muscles. The four Rotator Cuff muscles are:

  • Supraspinatus
  • Infraspinatus
  • Teres Minor
  • Subscapularis

ATTACHMENTS:

  • The teres minor attaches from the superior aspect of the lateral border of the scapula to the greater tubercle of the humerus.

ACTIONS:

  • Laterally rotates the arm at the glenohumeral joint
  • Adducts the arm at the glenohumeral joint
  • Horizontally extends the arm at the glenohumeral joint

NOTES:

  1. The Teres minor is the “T” of SITS (Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor, Subscapularis), an acronym for the rotator cuff group.
  2. Teres minor and the adjacent teres major have antagonistic joint actions because they wrap around the humerus in opposite directions. The teres minor is a lateral rotator; the teres major is a medial rotator.
