Tesla to Expand Its Rental Program to Michigan December 31, 2025 By Karan Singh Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Threads Share on Bluesky Share on Reddit Share on FB Messenger Share via Email Not a Tesla App

Tesla has formally begun work to expand its direct rental operations into the heart of the American automotive industry — Michigan. According to a filing submitted to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Tesla has registered a dedicated limited liability company, Tesla Rental LLC, to conduct rental business in the state.

While the entity was officially formed in Delaware in 2021, this is a deliberate push to operationalize a corporate-owned fleet in Michigan, which has historically been a challenging state for Tesla to operate in due to direct-sales regulations.

Expanding Rental Access

The filing outlines a broad operational scope, including the acquisition, ownership, and short-term rental of electric vehicles, along with related services such as toll payments, charging, and roadside assistance.

The consumer-facing offering is just as aggressively priced as Tesla’s original offering in other states, where Tesla tries to undercut traditional rental agencies and peer-to-peer platforms, while also helping to introduce customers to the Tesla experience and ecosystem.

Pricing

  • Model 3 / Model Y: $60/day

  • Cybertruck: $75/day

  • Model S / Model X: $90/day

Rental Benefits

Tesla includes a fairly comprehensive set of benefits for those renting a vehicle:

  • Unlimited Mileage

  • Complimentary Supercharging

  • FSD (Supervised)

  • $250 Discount on a new Tesla vehicle purchase (within 7 days of a rental)

Rental Restrictions

Rentals are capped at seven days and must not leave the state of origin, so cross-state road trips are prohibited.

The Ultimate Test Drive

This expansion isn’t just a revenue play - Tesla likely makes little to nothing out of these rentals at the prices offered. However, it is an excellent way for new customers to get behind the wheel of a Tesla at a low cost for a period longer than a test drive, allowing them to learn about the EV and Tesla’s features.

Lower prices will attract consumers compared to other rental services, and they’ll also get to experience a Tesla vehicle in a long-term test drive. To cap it off, they’ll receive an incentive to buy one at the end.

This is also a fantastic way to get people to try out FSD. A few days of road tripping with FSD can provide an excellent reason for someone to subscribe to or purchase FSD when they buy their new vehicle.

The $250 discount on a new car also effectively waives the rental fee or deposit for a new vehicle. It can also be combined with other discounts or programs, like the Referral Program or the American Heroes Program.
