Ready to fly around the dragon lands? The next TFT set is here with a host of new champions, traits, and a unique mechanic. Here’s everything you need to know TFT Set 7, Dragonlands, and its Dragons.

TFT Set 7 is live, and we’re going back to the Dragonlands.

“Our seventh set takes place in the dragon realms where clans compete for power across various islands, each worshipping their own powerful ancient dragons locked behind the mysteries of dormant shrines,” developer ‘Craftbrew’ said in a January 2022 dev video.

The hype is at fever pitch as the update goes live with a new roster of champions and traits, and the Dragon mechanic teased in that short introduction.

Here’s what you need to know about the TFT Set 7 expansion, Dragonlands.

TFT Set 7 champions & traits

58 units will comprise the roster for the first half of TFT Set 7 with 51 “champions” and 7 “Dragons” added for Dragonlands.

This includes five unique units to TFT: Ao Shin, Daeja, Idas, Shi Oh Yu, and Sy’fen. These five new Dragons, plus Aurelion Sol and Shyvana, make up the legendary cast of powerful units the set is revolved around.

That’s not to say the remaining 51 champions are lackluster. Riot have innovated drastically with their units, most notably with Bard and Zoe. The former will inflate your roll odds every time he casts, while the latter “steals” abilities from other units to cast across the board.

Bard spawns “noots” every time he dances, which increase your roll odds for high-cost units.

On top of these 58 units, 28 new traits are being added — some reprints, but many with new takes on old favorites. Plus, after the success of Mutant in TFT Set 6, a similar dynamic trait is coming in Dragonlands under Mirage.

TFT Set 7 mechanic explained: Dragons

TFT Set 7 has two major mechanics. Riot are bringing back Gizmos and Gadgets’ Hextech Augments as the TFT Set 7 mechanic after much community love.

“Dragonlands marks the first-ever return of a set mechanic in Augments, but has a few more draconic tricks in store that are sure to hatch excitement,” TFT caster Rosemary ‘Nekkra’ Kelley said during the Gizmos & Gadgets World Championship.

The second is really in the set name — Dragons. There’s seven of them, each defending a different nation in the Dragonlands.

The fabled Ao Shin makes his League of Legends debut in TFT Set 7.

Dragons are purchaseable in-game at the same odds as four and five-costs. They cost twice as much gold compared to other units in their tier and take up two spaces like a Colossus unit. However, they’re very powerful beasts you’ll want on your side.

Each Dragon has a different power-up, and they also boost the specific trait they align with. They gain triple the trait bonus, but this only activates if you have one on board (unless you get the Dragon Alliance Augment) so you can’t stack them.

There’s an eighth Dragon too — called the Treasure Dragon. It’s replacing the Stage 4-7 Raptors round, with the event “giving you a final opportunity to finish your comp”, according to Riot. This includes extra gold, item components, and more boosts. You can refresh your selection for one gold, but you have to take what you’re given — you can’t pick and choose.

“The idea is that the choices are all generally balanced, but there are some unique rare rolls that make you make trade off,” Mortdog explained.

TFT Set 7 release date

TFT Set 7, Dragonlands, launched on live servers as part of TFT patch 12.11 on June 8, 2022.
