Summary

  • Not all Pokemon are as big as they seem; some celebrated ones are surprisingly small.
  • Some Pokemon, however, are colossal, towering over people with ease.
  • While legendary Pokemon like Ho-Oh and Dragonair may not be the largest, their significance exceeds their size.

When people see the designs of Pokemon, they often imagine them being very large. The truth is, though, that when looking at the Pokedex, many of them are not as big as they first appear. The beloved Pokemon anime has been known to take liberties with some of the sizes, too, so players are often surprised to realize that a Pokemon such as Groudon is only 11 feet tall.

Some Pokemon, however, are ridiculously big, and many would hurt their necks simply trying to look up at them. All of these Pokemon are easily the height of two or three people if not many, many more.

Updated April 8, 2025, by Blaise Santi: 2025 is going to be an exciting year for Pokemon fans. The franchise will see its first installment on the Nintendo Switch 2 with Pokemon Legends Z-A, which is slated to release for both the Switch 2 and its predecessor later this year. Until then, fans await news about the next generation of the mainline games. With new games will come new Pokemon that compete to be the largest in the franchise, so before players meet any brand-new Pokemon in either Legends Z-A or the 10th generation games, here are some additional Pokemon that might surprise fans by how large they are.

45 Arceus

The Alpha Pokemon

Type

Normal

Ability

Multitype

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

10 '06"

Pokedex Entry

It is said to have emerged from an egg in a place where there was nothing, then shaped the world.

Despite being the supposed creator of the world of Pokemon, Arceus is only the 45th largest Pokemon in the franchise. That being said, Arceus still stands over 10 feet tall, making it quite intimidating, especially compared to most other average-sized Pokemon. However, there's a possibility another form of Arceus exists that's even larger.

According to its Pokedex entries, Arceus shaped the universe using 1,000 arms, though judging by its appearance, it has far fewer than that. Some have speculated that this means, like Dialga and Palkia, Arceus has an Origin Forme of Arceus that's much more grand and Biblical in its design, though it not being revealed in Pokemon Legends Arceus might have debunked that idea.

44 Reshiram

The Vast White Pokemon

Type

Dragon/Fire

Ability

Turboblaze

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

10' 06"

Pokedex Entry

According to myth, if people ignore truth and let themselves become consumed by greed, Reshiram will arrive to burn their kingdoms down.

Reshiram is one half of the giant Dragon-type Pokemon who split into the mascots for Pokemon Black & White, but it's an entire foot taller than its counterpart, Zekrom. Debuting in Pokemon Black, Reshiram is a Dragon/Fire-type who is an ally to those whose virtue is truth, as opposed to Zekrom, who is an ally to the believers in ideals.

Not including Black Kyurem or White Kyurem (the fused forms of Reshiram and Zekrom's forgotten sibling), Reshiram is also the largest Legendary Pokemon from the fifth generation games. However, it's much, much smaller than the mascot Legendaries from the third or even fourth generation games. Still, those who played Pokemon Black had quite the stats to back up their love of Reshiram.

43 Farigarif

The Long Neck Pokemon

Type

Normal/Psychic

Ability

Cud Chew, Armor Tail, Sap Sipper

Evolution Data

Evolves from Girafarig when leveled up while knowing Twin Beam

Height

10' 06"

Pokedex Entry

The hardened head from the tail protects the head of the main body as Farigiraf whips its long neck around to headbutt enemies.

One of the most surprising cross-gen evolutions introduced in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is Farigarif, the evolved form of Gen 2's Girafarig. The Pokemon grows up quite a lot when it evolves, going from an adorable 4'11" to over 10 feet. Known as the Long Neck Pokemon, it's not surprising that Farigarif is so tall considering it's based on a giraffe, a real-life animal that's even taller at 16–18 feet on average.

Though Farigarif may even be dwarfed by actual giraffes, it's one of the tallest non-Legendary Pokemon in the franchise thus far. This is all the more apparent with the graphics of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet giving players a good idea of how most Pokemon scale against each other in the wild.

42 Slither Wing

The Paradox Pokemon

Type

Bug/Fighting

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

10' 06"

Pokedex Entry

This Pokémon somewhat resembles an ancient form of Volcarona that was introduced in a dubious magazine.

Volcarona is one of two Pokemon species which have two Paradox forms in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, alongside Donphan. While its future form, Iron Moth, is smaller than Volcarona by several feet, Slither Wing outsizes them both at 10 feet tall. Based only on its appearance, most would assume it's much smaller and cuter than it really is.

This is yet another situation in which a Pokemon's on-screen looks contradict its own Pokedex information. Judging by the official game, Slither Wing is not only double the size of Volcarona, but it's larger than pretty much every other Paradox Pokemon, save for the Gen 2 legendary trio. It's even supposed to be several feet taller than Gen 9's legendary mascot Koraidon.

41 Serperior

The Regal Pokemon

Type

Grass

Ability

Overgrow, Contrary

Evolution Data

Evolves from Servine at level 36

Height

10' 10"

Pokedex Entry

It only gives its all against strong opponents who are not fazed by the glare from Serperior's noble eyes.

At a length of 10 feet and 10 inches, Serperior takes the cake as the largest fully-evolved starter Pokemon. However, it likely doesn't often appear that way considering that Serperior is a snake. Its size is a measure of its horizontal length, and rarely does it ever stretch 10 feet into the air.

Being the largest fully evolved starter is quite a feat for Serperior, but earns it the title of Lord of the Forest, as given in the Pokedex entry from Pokemon Violet. For comparison, the next largest fully evolved starter is the Mega Evolution of Venusaur. Megas aside, it's Feraligatr. So not only does Serperior have the rest of the starters beat, but the next largest starter has a type disadvantage, too.

40 Solgaleo

The Sunne Pokemon

Type

Psychic/Steel

Ability

Full Metal Body

Evolution Data

Evolves from Cosmoem at level 53 (Sun, Ultra Sun, Sword, and Scarlet only)

Height

11' 02"

Pokedex Entry

It is said to live in another world. The intense light it radiates from the surface of its body can make the darkest of nights light up like midday.

Solgaleo is the counterpart to Lunala, as well as the smallest Legendary mascot from the seventh generation games, Pokemon Sun & Moon. Nevertheless, it's still pretty big at over 11 feet tall, especially considering it evolves from Cosmoem, one of the smallest Pokemon ever at only 4 inches. Nevertheless, it's two feet shorter than Lunala, and 13 feet shorter than Necrozma's Ultra form.

Despite lacking size compared to its generational counterparts, Solgaleo is quite powerful. According to its Pokedex entry from Pokemon Sun, Solgaleo is capable of radiating light that can brighten up a night sky to look like it's the middle of the day. It's also been called the Beast That Devours The Sun, even though it's supposedly 409 million times smaller than our sun.

39 Arbok

The Cobra Pokemon

Type

Poison

Ability

Intimidate, Shed Skin, Unnerve

Evolution Data

Evolves from Ekans at level 22

Height

11 '06"

Pokedex Entry

This Pokemon has a terrifically strong constricting power. It can even flatten steel oil drums. Once it wraps its body around its foe, escaping is impossible.

Arbok certainly doesn't look as massive as it is, unless fans have forgotten how it dwarfs Jessie and James in the Pokemon anime. Like many entries on this list, Arbok is based on a snake, meaning most of its "height" actually comes from the combined length of its long, serpentine body.

According to the Pokedex, Arbok doesn't take its massive size for granted, either. As of its third-generation entries, Arbok uses its long body to wrap around foes, tightening around them until there's no escape. Luckily, the other Pokemon on this list may be too big for even Arbok to fully wrap around.

38 Miraidon

The Paradox Pokemon

Type

Electric/Dragon

Ability

Hadron Engine

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11' 06"

Pokedex Entry

This seems to be the Iron Serpent mentioned in an old book. The Iron Serpent is said to have turned the land to ash with its lightning.

Miraidon is a more recent addition to the Pokemon universe, serving as the mascot legendary for Pokemon Violet. One thing Miraidon fans have to boast over fans of Koraidon, the legendary from Pokemon Scarlet, is that Miraidon is over three feet taller than its rival. Simply put, Miraidon is the Harley Davidson to Koraidon's Schwinn bike.

Of course, Miraidon fans might not appreciate its massive size since it spends most of Pokemon Violet in Low-Power Mode as players ride it around the Paldea region. Still, how many other Pokemon on this list can boast of being ridden by players?

37 Walking Wake

The Paradox Pokemon

Type

Water/Dragon

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11' 06"

Pokedex Entry

This ferocious creature is shrouded in mystery. It's named after an aquatic monster mentioned in an old expedition journal.

Walking Wake doesn't look so massive until it's paired next to a trainer in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This Paradox Pokemon appears to be a prehistoric version of Suicune, with a much more vicious and draconic design, sporting a much larger mane. Compared to the iconic Suicune, Walking Wake is almost double its size.

Introduced in Scarlet and Violet, Paradox Pokemon are more powerful versions of iconic Pokemon, with stats that can even rival Legendary Pokemon.

Posts 1 By Eduardo Ariedo

However, what Walking Wake has in size over Suicune, it lacks in serene grace (and we're not talking about the Ability). Nevertheless, Walking Wake certainly takes the cake as one of the best-designed Paradox Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet.

36 Gouging Fire

The Paradox Pokemon

Type

Fire/Dragon

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11'06"

Pokedex Entry

There are scant few reports of this creature being sighted. One short video shows it rampaging and spouting pillars of flame.

Like Walking Wake, Gouging Fire takes a prehistoric look at one of the most iconic Legendary Pokemon: Entei, a member of the Legendary Beasts from the second generation. Gouging Fire is the exact same size as Walking Wake, but both of them are dwarfed by the third member of their trio, Raging Bolt, with its massive neck.

Gouging Fire, again like Walking Wake, is twice the size of Entei. However, this Pokemon's existence also brings into question the long-standing theory that Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are revived forms of Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon as the legends go, but perhaps these Paradox Pokemon are just simply what those Eeveelutions looked like when they were first saved.
